Got an STI Spartan III in 9mm.

Post by 68Charger »

Despite hearing a lot of bad reviews on this forum about STI, I bit and got an STI Spartan III in 9mm.

Will shoot maybe next weekend and I'll let everyone know how she performs.

I know the Spartan line is made in the Philippines but with STI parts (right?). Heard those guns are really reliable and well made. Either or, I'll let you know how she shoots. Here's a pic.

The positive comments outweigh the negative on STI by about 50 to 1.

Nice pickup. I look forward to your range report. Despite the Spartan's being assembled outside the U.S, it's a fantastic gun by almost all accounts.

Very nice. I have a 1911 9mm and everybody in my house loves shooting it.

Where did you find it?

Looking foward to a range report.

I got it over here at the Saxet Gun show in San Antonio.

Got a good price for it as well. $630+tax.

I'm really excited to shoot the lil bugger. I haven't even held it as much as I want to. I've been helping my GF put her apartment up with decorations and shelves and stuff. She doesn't even know I bought it. I'm going to tell her after I take her out for a nice dinner and stuff. Make her happy and deliver the news.  :leaving

You hardly ever see STI's at Houston gun shows.

Nice pick up.

Definitely post up on how you like it. I have been looking at STI's for a while now. Never owned a 1911 before and the spartan seems like a good one to start with.

Keep in mind my Shadow was USED. There was a reason why someone gave it up, I just happened to be the sucker who found out why.

I don't dislike STI, I just want something else.

The new shorter Spartan's with the non-target rear sight might be making me lean towards one of those. I wish they put that sight on the 5".

Been eyeing one of those Spartans myself. But your rarely see an STI at a Houston show.

I just got back from the range yesterday and am happy to report that it went VERY well.

I had a box of WWB and some federal FMJ's and it ate it up with no hiccups. I had a few jams in the beginning but I was expecting that. After the first 200 rounds, it went very smooth. I haven't fed any HP's through it, but planning to do so here soon.

Things I'm looking into for change would be the sights and the grips. The grips were a bit too bulky but darned if I love that STI logo on them. The sights were just too dark for me to see the target with. I have a Kimber Stainless 5" that has similar sights, but for some reason I can aim real well w them. I'm thinking because it has a bit more spacing to where they contrast. Not sure.. I heard you can put some neon nail polish and that'll help, but .. eh..

I'm considering some night sights for it, but out of curiosity, do they make them other than the standard 'green' glow? Also what kind of sights do I purchase? Do I look for Officer size sights? How do I go about getting them? I looked through the net for some, but some look like they would not fit the grooves.

Thanks in advance fellas. :tiphat:

Oh.. and my GF.. well.. she's mad. She told me that she doesn't even want to look at it and that the money I used should have been used on her. I got some camping log cabin tickets from Groupon for 2 days for Vday. Hope she likes 'em . :)

Really??? Jokingly or serious? I would tell her to build a bridge and get over it. Offer to let her shoot it "rlol"

Unless she was saying you should have used the money and bought HER one, then I might think about finding another GF. ;-)
