Cerakote/Dura-Coat Applicator in Houston Area

Post by FAAPOD »

I'm looking for a good applicator of Cerakote and/or Duracoat in the Houston area. I'm looking to have my 870 finished. Please don't respond with how easy this is to do myself. By the time I got together all of the metal prep stuff to do the job properly, I can just get someone good to do it. This is the only gun I'm likely to ever have done.

Mods: I hope this is the right sub-forum for this. It didn't seem to fit anywhere else.

I know you don't want to hear it but steel wool and brake acetone doesn't take long to get. And that is all it takes to do proper prep for duracoat. Then it is just a matter a airbrushing. Anyway just some food for thought.

I think he made it clear he did not want to do it himself...a decent air brush set up can cost as much or more than just paying someone to do a one time job.

Dale is a great guy. I needed to have night sights installed on 3 of my Glocks, and when I asked him how much it would cost, he told me that he wouldn't think of charging me for something that simple.

I then had him do a grip reduction on my Glock 21. The new grip is the same size as my Glock 19, only a little longer. He is a great guy, and does great work.

Speaking of.......

Which is better, and why, between Cerakote and Dura-Coat? I ask because I'm about to acquire a custom built AR10 SASS rifle this weekend in trade for my M1A. The AR10 has a 18" 1:10 stainless steel heavy barrel from Noveske, and the owner had the barrel Dura-Coated black to match the rest of the rifle. I'm hoping that the finish will be durable.

Guys, my second link specifically had Dale Hunicutt. I linked because it is the courteous thing to do if you are taking information from another discussion group. I begin to wonder if I am the only one who actually reads all the posts of a thread or if people have just become so un-industrious that they now want everything given to them on the proverbial silver spoon.

Cerakote and DuraCoat can withstand temperatures as high has 500-600 degrees F. With "normal" shooting, your barrel will never get close to being that hot. If you are fortunate enough to own a transferable machine gun, or if you like to "blaze" with your semi-auto, do not put DuraCoat on your barrel, as your barrel temperature will rise to over 1,000 degrees F. In those cases, use Cerakote. Our Cerakote coating can handle temperatures up to 1,800 degrees F.
