My first "uh-oh" moment

Post by kgonzo216 »

So I have had my license for almost a week now and I've been getting used to carrying it around. Let me first say, that it feels great and I love it. Feel much safer.
With that being said, I did have my first "issue" with concealment. I went to purchase some new shoes and I never thought that it would cause that much of a problem with concealment. I quickly learned otherwise. It never even crossed my mind that when trying on shoes there is a lot of movement such as sitting, standing, and bending over. At any rate, I managed to get my back against a wall and out of sight so everything went fine. Just thought I would share my story!

What type holster are you using and where is it positioned?

I'm using an IWB holster and carry it on my back.

That's what I suspected. I had the same problem when I first started carrying and continued to have issues until I switched my carry method. I now carry a G23 OWB on my side. One size larger shirt and no one has a clue I'm carrying and it is much more comfortable.

It all takes a bit of practice and experience before it becomes second nature.

I started towards the back in the 1980s, and moved to the side where I wear my primary now ... it clunks less on the wooden church pew/metal folding chairs etc too ;-)

I'm still trying to get into the "just the right spot place". I have 2 different holsters, one I wear when I have a cover i.e. suit jacket or pull over. The second holster I bought thinking I would use it when it get warmer out but when I still need to dress with a shirt tucked in. Maybe I just need more time. I always feel like its blatantly obvious it's there. :???:

Just think of carrying like shoes. You probably didn't find shoes that fit you perfectly on your first try, and you probably don't wear the same shoes in every situation.

Don't be afraid to try out different things until you find something(s) that work for you.
