January 27th PSC-IDPA Match Status

Today (Thursday) has been beautiful; clear and sunny. That's the end of the good news.

The current forecast for Friendswood:

Friday - 10% chance of rain increasing to 20% Friday night;
Saturday - 60% chance of rain increasing to 80% by 11:00 am.

The range may be marginal even without any more rain, but I won't know until I check the range tomorrow. If we get any significant rain Friday evening, then the match will have to be cancelled. Add a very unfavorable forecast for Saturday and it looks like the match may have to be cancelled no matter what happens Friday evening.

If we have to cancel the match, we will hold the Classifier during the February match.

I will post a notice here and on PSC-IDPA and TexasIDPA.com as soon as possible, if we have to cancel.

I generally deliver Angel Food to elderly/shut-ins on the third or fourth Saturday of the month, depending on any holiday weekends.
I wish I could, but I will be delivering Angel Food that day.
I'll probably attend the next one at Thunder.

Well You could come up to the thunder match if she's gonna be there. I met her at Jan Thunder Saturday match and tried to help her have a good time but I think CaptDave was more helpful with loaning equipment and giving advise.

Would have stayed and shot with you guys after match but my son Jonathan had to get to work. I was looking at scores after match and realized CaptDave and I had the Father/Son teams there that day. And Jonathan had match high score on stage 4...First time for either of us. His mom is making him a t-shirt to comemurate(sp) the occasion.

(Please don't look at the scores Jeremae is citing. Mine were abyssmal, although I did leave with more knowledge than when I arrived.)

It's not about the scores. It's about the fun, the friends and practicing skills you hope will never be useful (but want to have none the less.)

What? not about the scores? Man, next time I'm going to take it easier and chat a bit w/ the SO after the buzzer before drawing my pistol.

Go right ahead. Us SO's enjoy a little socializing now and then. Just remember you've got a hot weapon and, as SRVA would say, you're one reload away from a gunfight, so keep it polite!

Actually, I've been thinking about a scenario that lets the buzzer go off, the shooter has other tasks to do and the real "time" starts with the first fired shot (your scored time is the last shot time minus the time you 'wasted' until you took your first shot). The gamers would get nothing out of it, but it would add a nice self defense flair that is so often missing in this game where the bad guys are all numbered and waiting for you to mow them down at the buzzer. Ah, but we digress off topic and I'm supposed to be setting the example...

Off topic? NA! Sounds like the stage that could have been if not for the rain at PSC.

I think it sounds like a great idea....I always like the gas pumping stages and think they have a lot of room for you to get creative!

I think people will think I nuttier than I already am. I can see it now...

me = "So, looks like it's going to be a warm day today."
SO = "Do you know the buzzer just went off ?"
me = "Yeah, but I figure this game isn't about scores and more about having a good time, you know, chatting w/ friends and things."
SO = "I'd love to chat, but 10 shooters are waiting for you to finish."
me = "I can I can draw my pistol and start shooting, but that'll cut our chatting time short. You know?"
SO (asking other folks) = "Should we give a FTDR in this case?"

(note: I've only shot 1 IDPA match so far and not entirely sure of the rules. But FTDR seems to come up often and ill defined enough for this situation :)

I've shot a few stages where you do thing like this. Especially the running to the gun and/or mag type (where the gun is far away from you when you start). But the timer has always started at the buzzer; I guess so people will actually _run_.
