New York: The Liberty Infringement Thread

Post by RoyGBiv »

So far we have.....

Second Amendment is not recognized...
Myriad of threads about the problems obtaining, carrying and transporting guns in NY... I'll let y'all find them on your own

Prohibition on giving food to the homeless:
http://texaschlforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=94&t=55562" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

No sugary drinks over 16 ounces:
http://texaschlforum.com/viewtopic.php? ... =bloomberg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

And today we have....
NYC Considering limits on movie popcorn size.
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/06 ... -on-jumbo/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
On the heels of Mayor Michael Bloomberg's call for a ban on jumbo-sized sodas and other sugary drinks, city officials are now considering restrictions on treats ranging from popcorn to milkshakes
The question is.... When will New Yorkers have had enough of this and put a stop to it.?
I'd laugh at them, if I wasn't so completely stunned. :eek6

Post your "I can't believe NY is planning to ..... " links here...

Some parents say it is toy guns that make boys warlike. But give a boy a rubber duck and he will seize its neck like the butt of a pistol and shout "Bang!"......George Will

Yes - I guess that's why the government wants a monopoly on the process, so it's the sole target of the dependency that's created.

Here's another...

http://realestate.aol.com/blog/2012/06/ ... d-village/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Mow Your Lawn or Go to Jail, Warns One Long Island Village
The Massapequa Park village board unanimously passed a law imposing fines and even jail time on homeowners who don't keep up their properties, Massapequa Patch reports. Aside from not mowing the lawn, eyesores including full dumpsters, broken gutters, excessive litter, boarded-up doors and windows, unattended shopping carts and graffiti can land homeowners in hot water.

The owners -- including banks that have foreclosed properties -- have 10 days to comply with a village order to clean up their premises before stiff penalties are imposed. The first offense carries a penalty of up to $1,000, but subsequent offenses can carry jail time and even heavier fines. Three offenses within five years can bring up to 15 days in jail and as much as a $10,000 fine.
All I can say is... you reap what you sow.

There is a recent Miami, FL incident that suggests...among other things that that is a possibility.

My wife's daughter lives in Brooklyn and she goes every year. I love my wife but I just can't bring myself to go there with her. I feel really uncomfortable disarming after all these of carrying.
