How often do you go to the range / practice shooting
Recently, I have been going to the range at least once a week... I'm considering signing up for a yearly membership. How much is too much? How often do you go to the range or practice place to shoot?

Even though I have a yearly membership, I don't go as often as I should.77346 wrote:Recently, I have been going to the range at least once a week... I'm considering signing up for a yearly membership. How much is too much? How often do you go to the range or practice place to shoot?
How much is too much?
It's probably too much if you go to Walmart and have to decide whether it's the ammunition or the beans.

I'm not sure about your area....... the price will change dramatically between indoor/outdoor ranges, types of ranges... etc.
The range here offers annual membership for $75. It's an outdoor range, but it has pistol, rifle, and shotgun bays. It serves us well..
My buddy is the guy with the membership. I usually just tag along, and we have been going about monthly.
I also go to my grandfathers house at least once a month... sometimes twice. I have built a little pistol range out there and use it everytime I go out.

I used to try and go once a month, but then other things started getting in the way. Now that I have started IDPA I am just about back to once a month. In one or two months I will probably be back to at least once, probably twice, a month. I am not a member of a club yet, but do have my name on a list, so I'm at the mercy of public ranges for the most part.
Also, ammo isn't cheap and I don't reload yet. I say yet, because I'm just starting to look into that.

I try to go at least once a week---but if I am working with someone else, then I have to make the 2nd trip so I can shoot!

I'd like to and do try to make it out once a week, but life often interferes. This week was very good as I got to go out on a Friday with my wife and expend quite a bit of 9mm

I had to choose 4-6 times a month, However one should be aware that I will go more often than that if my time permits.
How do you explain a dog named Sauer without first telling the story of a Puppy named Sig?

$75 sounds like a good deal for a membership...
The fee at my local range is $15 for one hour and includes one target; additional targets are $1.00 and you can't bring your own
A one year membership is $600. Other ranges nearby charge similar fees.

Re: How often do you go to the range / practice shooting
I was going 5-6 a month but it was just getting to expensive! It was costing over $300 a month with the cost of ammo and range use(which is horrid imo), so that only lasted a couple of months. Now I just go 2-3 month.

An LC9 demands a lot of practice.
When in town I try and hit the range once every 3 weeks. The heck with the puppies, I need some extra clips.

At least twice a week. Apart from 2 days travelling I've been on the range shooting every day for the last 3 weeks. 5 hours / day this week. Special circumstances. Lotsa fun though

Well, I have a shooting berm out back of my house. Do I count that time as gun range time?
I conceal carry because I choose not to be a victim.

down here in corpus i shoot for $144/yr. outdoor range open sunrise to sunset. we have pistol and rifle bays, 50,100,200yds rifle range, and trap and skeet. pretty good deal if you ask me. I go at least every weekend and sometimes twice a weekend.

Honestly it varies a lot. Depends on the weather, how much free time I have, if I have a new gun to shoot/break in....
So anywhere between once a month to four or five times in a month.

Re: How often do you go to the range / practice shooting
Not nearly often enough.
The sad truth is, when I lived in upstate New York, I shot two, four, and sometimes more times per week. It was almost guaranteed I would get to the range at least once a week. Here, the nearest range that's open evenings during the week and on Sundays is an hour away. There is a small range open on Saturdays that's closer. Unfortunately, I often let my Saturdays get filled up with home maintenance projects. I know, excuses. But also what I like to call factors.
