City of New Orleans, Mayor Ray Nagin, Once Again Found in Contempt of Court

District Court Judge to City Attorney: Conduct "wholly unprofessional"

Fairfax, VA-The National Rifle Association (NRA) and law abiding gun owners have won yet another victory On February 13, 2007, against New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin and former police chief Warren Riley.

Judge Carl J. Barbier, presiding over the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana, granted NRA's motion for contempt against New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin and Warren Riley for "failure to provide initial disclosures and to compel answers to discovery" during NRA's injunction against the City for their illegal gun confiscation of law abiding citizens following Hurricane Katrina in 2006.

 Thanks for the link, it made my day. A picture of him in handcuffs could make the cover of American Rifleman!

My joy is tempered by the realization that unless Nagin and Riley are jailed or fined (and actually have to PAY a substantial fine out of their own pockets) the contempt citation doesn't mean much.

Well Nagin certainly is contemptible... I'm just glad the judge agrees!

I asked the question, and Charles can confirm this as well...

I asked Alice Tripp at the convention in Mesquite earlier this month if there was going to be any legal action taken against Nagin or Chief Compass for acting as they did during this crisis in regards to this gun confiscation...

She said no...

IIRC, I had thought it was this Chief Compass who made the announcement about the "nobody will have guns but the police" statement...

So whomever this other "former" police chief guy is, I do not know who or what he is all about...

But then again, I believe this is all a moot point, and I believe the state legislative bodies are reacting accordingly...

But...What I believe was a really interesting point made by another participant in that symposium in Mesquite was that what about Marshal Law being inacted???

That kinda put it in a Federal arena, and one that if National Guard troops are placed in an area to maintain order and enforce laws and the whole smack, I was leaning towards these state laws not being worth the paper they were being printed upon...And that any order to confiscate or restrict you and I recieving aid would be dependent upon our relinquishing our weapons to recieve that aid, etc etc...Like transportation out of a declared disaster area...

People I saw were forced to totally abandon pets before being allowed on busses headed for Houston or other cities, firearms obviously being confiscated at that time before they were allowed to proceed...etc etc

But I stand to be corrected if I misunderstood how that process works...

I'll say it again...All of this really keeps the plan to make sure that all I have to do from the word go, is to make sure I will have pre-positioned "stuff" were we are planning on going to in the event of an incident happening in our area, already there...That way all we have to do is gas up, scoop up (elderly in-laws, and pets) and boogie out of Dodge...

I don't want to be around this place when the bubble is breaking...

This is my motivation...
