FNH USA comming out with two 5.7x28 bolt action rifles
FN says the 5.7x28mm bolt gun will be ready by July or August, two versions.
There will be the PBR(Patrol, Bolt Rifle) and they will also have a "sporting" version of it.
They missed being ready for the shot show in time.

I have an IOM and a SBR'ed PS90....and 15.30caliber bolt guns
Actually Kenny its not made to replace your .308...and factory ammo isnt loaded to its full power because it is shot in blowback, and delayed blowback firearms. It would more fit in the uses of .22 Hornet..have you priced a 50 rd box of hornet lately? $32-$38! And reloading for a bolt action that dont depend on the laquer on the case to aid extraction,
which full lenth resizing does bad things to...and it can be loaded up to its full potential which will fully rival a Hornet. These guns will be on a super short version of the 70 winchester..will be short light and handy like a Ruger 77/22...fun to shoot, deadly accurate.(can you say 1" groups at 100yds) It will be a fine little critter getter.
lends its self well to using 55-62 grain bullets loaded just barely subsonic
for suppressor use...with no mechanical noise it will be quieter than my AAC Phoenix .22LR suppressed Ruger 22/45 pistol when I put my AAC
Optima 5.56 suppressor on it.
There are alot of things to recommend it...just not to replace .223 or .308
uses common reloading componants, small rifle primers and .224 bullets.

This all sounds great, and it makes sense with maybe one problem. I don't shoot little critters.p99guy wrote:I have an IOM and a SBR'ed PS90....and 15.30caliber bolt guns

HankB I said the same thing you did if you just read to the bottom..I said its no replacement to a .223...how did you miss that?
Kenny, not every gun fills the nitch of what an individual does with his trigger time...not a thing wrong with guns in .17 HMR either but im just not $300.00 driven to get one..I dont hate it at all..I just dont know what I would use it for. Life is like that :) Cars, guns, even golf clubs...we are offered different things and we make the choices best for our use.

p99guy, I read your acknowledgement that it wouldn't replace .223, but unlike yourself, I do NOT see ". . . alot of things to recommend it . . ." I actually see nothing to recommend it in a bolt gun.
I'm also not aware of any guns that require lacquer on the case (as your post seems to imply) to function - quite the contrary, the lacquer on things like steel-cased Wolf ammo is usually a source of frustration, as it builds up in chambers and eventually impairs function.
If the 5.7x28 as used in P90s and the FN pistol is different in this regard, that would seem to be indicative of a basic flaw in the design.

Oh Hank..I more than simply imply the 5.7x28 uses a lacquered case

Design flaw? How many guns have you designed Hank? None?(They work just fine and have for 17 years)
This is a weapon system Im very familure with....and one you have proven your amount of knowledge about rather quickly lol.

Heres one for ya hank...what kind of weapons are these in my living room floor..no there isnt a AUG in the bunch...and one isnt classified as a rifle

One doesn't have to be a firearm designer to recognize that experienced designers do put out flawed designs. (Early - some would say current - AR15s and their variants. The Chauchat. The Colt AA2000. Heckler & Koch's HK4. Aluminum uppers for FALs. Kahr's early runs of polymer pistols. The bolts on early Steyr Scouts. Most extremely short 1911s. And these barely scratch the surface of "flawed" designs.)
Take the P90s - neat little gun, especially in SBR form, but the sight an experienced designer at the factory stuck on top of it is an abomination.
This is my opinon, and I suspect you disagree with it, and that's OK, but . . . a need for some sort of coating on the case for a weapon to function - even with ammo that's been downloaded for blowback operation - is indicative of a weakness.
(BTW, from the picture you posted, I see you've got some AP ammo . . . preban, or are you in the business of purchasing/marketing it and the guns that use it?)
I've said my piece - I'll give you the last word on this. Knock yourself out.

I get that ammunition issued to me....the sight isnt made by FN, its made by Ringsights in the UK, and mainly suffers from being 1980's tech.
ah the 80's...Armeson OEG's and Singlepoint, and SUIT sights..and cell phones the size of Korean war military walkie talkies.
There is improved models of the ringsight availible. for retrofit and as a factory option...but yes FN has caught a bunch of poo over the basic ringsight.

For short range it is nice to load 6 grains of HS-6 instead of 27 grains of BLC-2 using the same 55 grain projectiles. The velocity is 1500 (pistol) vs. 3000 but paper, squirrels, rabbits don’t know the difference. At $20.00 per 50 it is not that expensive as the cases have lasted at least 5 loadings. I personally don’t think I need a bolt action 5.7x28 but they don’t make many 20 rd pistols or 50 round carbines that are good to 50 and 200 yards respectfully even with me being a pretty bad shot (Only 200 on the CHL Qualification
). For me 200 yards is all I normally shoot and 5.7 will handle varmints at that range well.
