Verifying Instructor Certification

Post by atxgun »

I was wondering if there was anywhere to get a list of licensed instructors or verify if someone offering a class is a certified? I checked DPS website, maybe I just fail but didn't see anything.

There used to be a link on the DPS site, but I can't find it. :headscratch

The instructor list is voluntary. You can ask to see the instructor's certificate.

As mentioned above, that is an "opt-in" list. Just because a person is not on that list does not mean he's not an instructor.

I haves friend who told me she was going to get her CHL about 6 months ago. I go and visit her and she shows me her certificate of completion. I congratulate her and ask her a couple of simple questions related to where you can carry or can't. Every question was answered wrong. I questioned her further and she tells me that she took no test, is paying the class in installments, and has only been to one 1 hour class so far. I contacted DPS to try and confirm he is an instructor and was told that was confidential and I could email the name and address of said "instructor" and they would "check it out". That's the last I heard about it. I told my friend to not go back to him.

Thanks for the link to the list. It's a good resource to help people find an instructor who wants to be found.

Sounds fishy. If this guy gave here the certificate and she is paying by installment, what incentive does she have to pay?
She already has the certificate.

And she should probably report the guy herself. If he's doing this, he's likely to get caught. Hasn't the DPS given students problems for fraudulently getting a certificate but not meeting the requirements and not reporting it?

This does sound "fishy".
