Yet another eligibility question

Post by frank808 »

After reading several posts about eligibility due to background check items I'm a bit concerned about how I should answer. Two things give me pause. First, I'm a 60 yo retired from Fed Civil Service and there are no recent brushs with the law. I've had a few minor traffic citations over the years, nothing in the past 5 yrs.

What I'm wondering about is an incident that happened when I was 15. I was arrested with some other boys at night in a used car lot while they were looking for loose accessories for their cars. I was there and I was helping look so we were all arrested and held for our parents. I went to juvie court and, as far as I recall, was released to my parents without any penalties. So, I assume I should include this and get what from Mich courts--a paper showing the outcome?

Second, when I was in the mulitary, I received non-judicial punishment for a drug offence. Was I arrested? No. The records of NJP are not supposed to be part of your permanent service record. Do I even mention this one? I did get a discharge from the service over it but it was "general under honorable conditions"--NOT a DD or BCD.

Until I read some of these other posts, I thought it would be clear sailing, but now I wonder about these 2 nagging bits of my "criminal" history.

It sounds like neither was a felony conviction and neither was in the past 5 years, so you should be eligible.

See FAQ # 19 for their official answer on what arrests to disclose. http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/RSD/CHL/faqs/index.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Thanks. That's kind of what I was thinking. I didn't doubt the eligibility, only if I should even bring it up. The first was 45 yrs ago and juvie. the second wasn't even an arrest and there were no civil records only military personal record entries. I will read the link you sent.
