Mihec 452-200 SWC Loads

I finally got around to casting some projectiles from this fine mold.
Does anyone have any "pet" loads for this projectile that you can share with me?
I have a wide range of powders from Unique, HP-38, Lil-Gun, 2400, and Blue-Dot.
I will loading these for my 1911 pistols (Colt Gov, and Kimber Classic Custom)

My most common load is 4.0 gr of Hodgdon Clay's. It is a mid-range load that I use for range and IDPA that functions well in my gun, soft-recoiling, is clean, and is an economical powder.

Hodgdon's published range for 200 gr LSWC is 3.6 to 4.3 gr.

At recent prices ($121.70) for 8 lbs of Clay's, that load will have about $0.87 of powder in every 100 rounds. I paid $89.00 for 8 lbs, so my powder cost is $0.64 per hundred rounds.

Some other economical powders are: Alliant Red Dot, Alliant Bullseye, and Ramshot Competition. Although Unique is economical, I won't use it because of its poor metering characteristics.

I still have a fair amount of Clay's left, but the next one I am going to try is Ramshot Competition, as I have been happy with every other Ramshot product I've tried.

Yes these brass molds from Mihec are great! I have two of them. This one and the 200g HP mold.

I am getting consistent readings of 920-950 fps using 6.7g of Unique with the HP's

I don't have any Clays in the cabinet, but have plenty of Unique (I have the same problem metering it).

I just worked up four loads using Unique. I built 12 each @ 6.2, 6.6, 7.0 and 7.3. I set the COL at 1.240. They all pass the plunk test in my Colt Barrel. I will run 5 of each load through the Chronograph and then use the remaining 7 to test accuracy.

Now I just have to wait until Monday to test them out!

I have been wanting to try some Clays. Guess I will have to pick some up when supplies get back on the shelves.
