Dick's Sporting Goods

Post by Commander »

We were supposed to get a new Academy Sports and Outdoors here in Rockwall. However, yesterday I noticed the sign had been changed. Its now announcing Dick's Sporting Goods as coming soon. According to their website, Dick's only has two Texas locations - Frisco and Arlington (if I recall correctly). I find no reference to ammo or guns of any type on their website. I was looking forward to having someplace locally to buy ammo and stuff other than WalMart. Does anybody have any experience with Dick's?

I bought my Mossberg pump HD shotgun at the Dick's in Arlington. I had to nearly go downstairs to get someone to wait on me in the gun area. They have some good stuff, but sometimes the prices are high.

We have one soon to open in Flower Mound. South of Target on 2499 (just south of 407).

My son and I stopped by to check out the store in Frisco a while back. Lots of $ spent on interior "atmosphere", but guns/hunting department is pretty lame. Quite a few long guns (no EBRs) but not a handgun whatsoever. The clerk said they were not considered "sporting". But they did stock some pistol ammo.

Time will tell, but methinks Dick's "target market" in Flower Mound/Highland Village area is probably also something other than shooting sports ... Their store here is within a couple of miles of our range - and just a few more miles to Sportsman's Warehouse, Academy, Outdoor World and Cabella's ...

Been to the one in Arlington. Just long guns no handguns. Prices were pretty high on their shotguns.

The clerk should tell that to the US Olympic Pistol Team.

Looks like Dick's will be a disappointment. I do have Bass Pro Shops just across the lake in Garland. They're a bit high on gun prices, but they did have WWB 100 Round 9mm on sale for $12.88 yesterday. That's $2.00 cheaper than WalMart.

As well to add, Quail Creek GR. For I believe they are a scant jaunt down 1171, if current memory serves.

I haven't made it to the Arlington store yet, but their ads almost always have a full page of guns - handguns and long guns - and ammo, often at prices that make me want to drive over there. For example they had the Henry .22 levergun for $199 recently. You never see that on sale.
Just based on their advertising, I figured guns were pretty prominent in their store.

Their flyer did not have any store locations listed. I had to go online to find out where their store is. I thought that was pretty stupid

Pband - I hope you are not getting our range confused with theirs. Completely different types of operations.

And, I failed to mention that the new Dick's in Flower Mound may also be competing with (under-constuction) Super-Wal-Mart just to the northeast about 1/2 mile on 407 ...

No. Although I have not yet had the pleasure to be graced by the Denton County range, I am rather certain I would not confuse Quail Creek with, well, anywhere.

I think it's one of those stores for the yuppie active lifestyle types; you know, the ones buying up the 2wd Jeep Wranglers. They have a lot of athletic looking clothes, but not much in the way of physical sports equipment. I think what little they have is just for what you said, atmosphere.

Probably, unless you have low standards. The Dicks in Frisco was a Galyans, and sold handguns and the like. When Dick bought them there was a firesale and then no more. Have not been back, will not be back.
