Renewal Date

Post by TruckMkr »

I took my class with a group of 9, class was in april of that year, we all submitted applications and received our licenses within a few weeks of each other. Now for my question. B-days range from Jan to Dec with mine being mid Sept and wife's being first part of Oct. With the exception of me, everyone else's CHL expires in 2014 but mine expires 2013. What happened?

Welcome to the forum :tiphat:

Your first license is good for four years plus the number of days until your birthday in the fifth year. In your and your wife's case, that means your took your class in April of 2009, and then it expires on your birthdays in 2013 (4 years plus 4-5 months). For everyone else, their birthdays had already passed in 2009, so they don't expire until their next birthday which happens to fall into 2014. Your new renewal licese will be goo for 5 years, from your birthday in 2013 until it expires on your birthday in 2018.

I understand the 4 years. What I don't understand is, why does my wife's expire in 2014. My b-day is in sept and hers is oct. others in class, family an friends have b-days in jan, mar, oct, nov and dec. they all expire 2014. Mine was only one in class in sept and only one with 2013 exp date.

Did you take your class in 2009 or 2010? Those that took the class that had birthdays prior to or close to the time the approval of your applicaitons would get more time, but those that were at least a month or more after class would be shorter. If you took your class in 2010 it is possible they made an error on your expiration date. If it was taken in 2009, then those who expire in 2014 and have birthdays in Oct - Dec got more than 5 years on thier license which is incorrect.

The general answer was already given. For a more specific answer, we would need to know birth dates for each person and the dates their CHLs were issues. For example, if the license is issued the day before your birthday, you get 363 days less than if it's issued the day after.
