The original Gorn TV episode is notable for Kirk's construction of a blackpowder shotgun/cannon from scratch. Even those meddling Metrons didn't seem to mind assault weapons.

You've got to love Shatner's good natured attitude at all of the "Kirk ribbing." I'm a bigger fan now than I was when he was still playing captain Kirk.

During a trip back from the Mediterranean in 1968, one of the guys who was in charge of such things, traded all of our movies for Star Trek reels (the studios used to put TV shows on film for distribution to the troops) and then we dawdled on the way back, refueling and resupplying regularly, but our resident trekkie would not swap the trek flicks for anything else.

In good weather we watched movies on the hangar deck or amidships, in less than good weather, in the mess decks (two seatings per evening) and we saw "Trouble with Tribbles" so many times that we all knew all of the lines, so we would just leave the sound off and recite the lines, sometimes with some pretty obscene ad libs.

And then I met my first wife, and she wondered why I got up and left the room when her little kids were watching Star Trek on TV.

I've been a Treekie fan since the series first came out. Watch every episode for past 20+ years until they started doing re-runs in recent years. Great social and cultural messages. Also, was a break-thru series which aimed to de-sensitize prejudices, inter-racial, and inter-species compatibilities and all. Lots of positive messages, beit many were subliminal. Also, had a lot of "futuristic" things and devices that are common-place now...e.g., "Communicators" = Cell Phones now. Not to mention portable body scanners for medical problems...now our PET, MRI, CT scans, etc. Will be interesting in the decades to come! Another item: Voice ordering of food items through a replicator... we now have voice activated many things, especially for the handicapped.
