Army Corps of Engineers - Lakes

It is getting close to boating season again and I got to thinking. All the lakes we visit are USACOE lakes but the boat ramps and such are city owned or city managed or private. Some of the camp grounds are city owned, private owned and USACOE owned. One such lake is Grapevine Lake. So, if I am at a private boat ramp, I can carry until I get on the water then I must disarm? Can I then put it in the boat glove box and be covered under MPA? Being that MPA is Texas law, I don't think it would apply.

I know there is some language about having weapons on federal property such as that you will hunt on. Where can I find out all the specifics because even the private camp grounds and such are still on federal property?!?

I believe member RPB has researched this more than most. I see he hasn't on for a couple of weeks, but if you search his posts you'll find a wealth of info on Corps of Engineers properties.

I have interest in this as well. We sometimes camp with my sister down at Somerville at a camp are that is not COE land, at least as far as I can tell as I have not seen any signs indicating it is.

tboesche, it depends on which park you go to on Lake Somerville. I can't recall which, but some are owned by the county, some are owned by Army Corps of Engineers. I believe the overlook park is ACE owned, but don't quote me on that.

Yes - previously discussed at length. In a nutshell - the Federal Government (US Army Corps of Engineers USACE) owns the land fee simple - the parks, ramps, etc are leased or licensed to the State, Counties, Cities, or private vendors but are still subject to USACE regulations. The water is also still managed by the USACE and the regulations also apply there as well.

And notice on this map that there is quite a bit of land that belongs to the ACOE that extends onto land and up creeks and onto flood plane.
