I have recently got my CHL. I need some help with questions concerning whether or not I can carry at my work. I work at a church, which we have permission to carry at. However, we also have a private school that rents out part of our building during the week. What are the steps I need to take in order to carry every day at work? Or, am I already ok to carry?
Thanks

Re: Gun Carry Question
First, IANAL.
I believe that each school or school district can grant permission to carry. Now, since it is a private school, if it is owned and operated by the church, and you have permission from the senior pastor or board, then I think you would be okay.
Now, if it is just spaced leased from the church, I would think that you would have to get permission from the school owner

Re: Gun Carry Question
I wonder if I need written consent from the school owner or just verbal? This private school is not ran by the church. They are their own organization just leasing several classrooms from us.
Thanks
Thanks
Re: Gun Carry Question
I'd say that since the church management has given you the green light to carry than you are good to go.

Re: Gun Carry Question
I wonder if it changes things though that we own the property. It is our building.
Re: Gun Carry Question
I don't think so. The law doesn't specify ownership, just that it's a school.camvz08 wrote:I wonder if it changes things though that we own the property. It is our building.
However...
PC §46.035 (f) (3) "Premises" means a building or a portion of a building. The term does not include any public or private driveway, street, sidewalk or walkway, parking lot, parking garage, or other parking area.
Any chance every room they use is in one "portion" of the building (maybe a particular hallway) that you can always avoid? (Anyone else have thoughts on this?)

Get permission in writing from the school and church both for your protection
