Change of pace.....

Post by The Annoyed Man »

I'm posting these just for yall's amusement. As some of you may know, my son got married three weeks ago, and I thought you all would get a kick out of the Groom's Cake and the Wedding Cake.

First the Groom's Cake. My wife and I designed it, and ordered it from a shop in Keller. Yes, that is REAL thick-cut maple smoked bacon, on maple icing, over chocolate cake. It was REALLY good. My son is a total HALO-head, so we put a Master Chief action figure on the top.

The Wedding Cake, designed by my daughter in law, was a zombie-hunter theme. Their motto is "Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse Together." They are represented on the top as male and female zombie hunters, and there are zombies and zombie parts scattered around the cake. Kinda different, but fun.

Anyway, I thought some of you might find these as amusing as I did.

I guess they take "for better or for worse" seriously. I guess if you prepare for your marriage to survive a Zombie Apocalypse it will survive anything.

They are fantastic, I like it when people veer from the norm and have what they want.

I'll bet the part your son and new daughter in law enjoyed most was all the love and thoughtfulness that went into the cakes.

My wife cooked up an awesome dinner a few days ago...roasted jalapenos stuffed with cheese....put inside chicken breasts lightly marinated for 24 hours...wrapped in bacon...then grilled with a homemade BBQ glaze.

Yeah, it was awesome! :woohoo

Oh, TAM, those cakes look AWESOME! :tiphat:

Since when does the groom get his own cake? Is this something new?

I didn't get a cake when I got married. :cryin

First I've heard of this practice as well. Any excuse to have bacon, I guess...

We had a plain white 12" round cake when we got married. Just to cut it and take a photo.
Our reception was at an old-style traditional Italian restaurant. We all had dessert off the dessert cart. :thumbs2:

Mmm...bacon....

Congrats TAM. It appears that the two newlyweds share similar tastes. That helps things greatly. I wish them the best.

It was a first for me too, and when I mentioned that lack of knowledge to my wife, she rolled her eyes at me and said it's been going on for a while now. What do I know? I'll tell you what I know. BACON on maple icing chocolate cake is GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!

Tell you something else which I found hilarious.....

The best man came up to me later and said, "I saw a cake with bacon all over it; and on top was Master Chief, holding a gun in one hand, and protecting his groin with the other, sitting on a pile of bacon, and I knew that was The Annoyed Boy's cake!"

That is awesome! Bacon and cake! Congrats to your son.
My brother owns his own production studio that does a lot of Halo stuff and I help him from time to time. We made the MasterChief suit for the Halo 4 trailer and he was the actor in the suit.

Groom's cakes have been around for a while. I got one when I was married 22 years ago. There was one in the movie "Steel Magnolia's." Remember that one? It was funny.

That's cool. I think that is the HALO 4 figure we bought for the cake. I don't know much about the game except that my son says he rocks at it. He's been invested in the franchise since version 1 was first released. We got it for him along with a first gen X-Box for Christmas, when the X-Box still had to be pre-ordered.

those are both cool!

we had a grooms cake back in the dark ages, 25 years ago...but back then it was most often an excuse to have a chocolate option, now people often do something crazy on that cake.
