I'm curious to know if anyone is familiar with the DPS-CHL internal processes. Do you get "in line" when the application is received or when the final documents are received? If it's the former, then wouldn't it be advisable to process the online application as quickly as possible instead of waiting until after the class is completed and / or fingerprints electronically transmitted?

I'm also assuming, please correct me if I'm wrong, all physical documents are either scanned or keyed into their system and electronically matched with the application. I'm hoping they're still not working off paper.

Do any of you know about these processes?

You can send your docs by email saving them time and effort and getting you your plastic faster.

What puts you in the DPS-CHL processing queue... their receipt of the application or their receipt of the final documents? If you get "assigned" a processing slot upon receipt of the application, then it seems like it would be practical to apply online as soon as you decide to get a CHL rather than wait until class, fingerprints, photo, and mailing documents.

However, if DPS won't start processesing your application until they receive all documents, then sending in the application early is moot.

Fingerprints are done. I received an e-mail back from DPS yesterday confirming receipt of my documents. Now it's all out of my hands. :yawn

Do we have any other May applicants yet?

I submitted everything online and am at the same point. It seems to vary widely how long before they actually update the site for you.

So how long is everyone waiting before checking the DPS site for a status change? I figured I would wait atleast 4 weeks before checking...

I mailed off my packet (with fingerprints already done) on 5/8 certified mail. They received it a few days later and just today my application showed materials received and background check under review. So took around 2-3 weeks. No idea how long the background will take.
