Check The Little Things

Post by stash »

Yesterday I went to Cabela's and purchased a xds. Boy, things have changed since my last purchase. First of all at Cabela's you fill out the 4473 by computer (I like that). I give the lady my CHL. She looks at it a couple seconds and said she cannot use it and will have to call it in (they actually do it by computer now). When I asked her what the problem was, she stated that my license has an incorrect abbreviation for Circle (my street is a circle). She said they have to go by the correct postal abbreviation and for circle it is Cir. My license indicates CR. She was a nice young lady and I did not argue with her about it (probably would have lost anyway). I have purchased guns with my previous CHL's but don't remember if they had Cir. or CR.
I did check my DL and it indicates Cir.

I don't think it is worth getting it changed - what do you all think?

Typically CR stands for County Road.

Well, checked mine too, since I live on a Circle.

CHL has "CIR"
DL has "CIRCLE"

How often do you purchase firearms? I assume this has not happened before... If you don't often purchase firearms, or if it's never happened before, I don't think it's worth changing, no. I would think about it if it happens again. I'd bet that it doesn't, that's incredibly detailed!

I would have considered canceling the sale and going elsewhere.

It can happen!

One of my childhood buddies went all the way through school, Little League, registered for the draft, etc, and when he was filling out paperwork for the NROTC in college, someone noticed his birth certificate listed him as female. That was in the days before female NROTC was allowed, too. It got straightened out although I think he was hoping to be sent to WAVE OCS or something.
Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

sjf - I would have gone elsewhere (if elsewhere had any) but it was an xds and I have been looking for one since about Jan.

Why?

You actually want to punish them for arbitrary enforcement by ATF regulators?

It seems that some regulators are very picky about uppercase, lowercase and abbreviations. If they get stuck with one of these, they need to do what he says or risk losing their FFL.

:iagree: :iagree: I've noticed the biggest dealers I've purchased from are often incredibly specific about Form 4473 requirements because they have to protect their license against an evil and out-of-control federal bureaucracy.

I've had Academy occasionally have me spell out FM (farm to market), but they still did not call it in. I thought it was stupid because that's what is has on both my DL and CHL (FM).
