Smart rifle means hunters never miss
"A new company in Texas is selling a precision rifle with a unique technology that allows even an inexperienced shooter to hit a target 10 football fields away. The price tag is a staggering $27,500."
There is soon to be a $5000 version for those interested.

Hm. Even I might be able to make a 600-yard shot with this thing...

How can I find a quick $27000 plus tax if I do Not push narcotics on the side?

Look for Remington to offer a version of this on their 700 platform.
No price yet, but rumor is under $5000.

they had sims running off of real guns at the NRA convention. it's a pretty slick setup, I ran a couple shots on the simulator. hoping it works like that in the field this hunting season.

This would take the challenge out of shooting for me. If I don't have to figure the drop and wind on a 500 yard shot on a coyote with whatever I am shooting it would be cheating to me. I still like to shoot and figure out what I did wrong when I miss and correct it the next shot if I can. Out of 31 coyotes shot this winter 11 were 400 to 600 yard shots, that is the fun in shooting. No smart gun for me.

Shooting an animal from 1000 yards away by selecting it on a screen in my opinion is not hunting. To me hunting must involve at least some skill. Having a guide drive you to the spot, point out the animal, then selecting it on the screen so you don't miss...how is this hunting? This is "targeting the animal for termination". I guess some will argue that it is no different than using a scope, fiber optic sights, etc., just a matter of degree, but you have to draw the line somewhere. Even shooting with a scope requires skill. I don't even understand how shooting game with this system could be enjoyable. For me the enjoyment in hunting (besides being outdoors in the woods) is the feeling of a challenge met.
Of course I may be being too harsh, I don't even rifle hunt anymore because it is too easy. I bow hunt only and love it.

This is like the 4th thread about this rifle, each one heralding it as "news." The original announcement was at least a year ago.

Since the ballistic drop is parabolic, a 2nd to 3rd degree movement. At long distance, that necessitate a ballistic computer, or etched turret as it is the case on some Leupold scopes. Even in this tracking-scope, you still need to manually adjust for wind reading at the target distance. A tough skill to acquire.MoJoeWrkn wrote:Shooting an animal from 1000 yards away by selecting it on a screen in my opinion is not hunting. To me hunting must involve at least some skill. What I would claim as true guided precision ammo, is laser homing 0.5" projectile. It is under research and development now at the University Level.
Most likely, top-secret projects would be the first to have such a toy.
You paint the target, Image tracking would keep the lock on the moving target, you fire from within cone of homing and voila, a 50 Cal project would direct itself to the target.
