AK47 vs M16

Post by ejector »

I hope I posted this in the right place.

Looking around youtube I found the following Discover video on Ak47 vs M16, SLOW motion and barrel flex on the AK47--> very interesting.

Good post. But which is better? I guess it all depends on your needs. M16 for a rifle and Ak47 for close range.....so I say, get an SKS and replace both of them!!!!!

For me it’s the AR platform ahead of the AK. I have several AR’s and one AK knock-off. I really like the AK, it’s kind of the Glock of the assault/carbine world, but I have many more years experience with the AR. I can operate the weapon from muscle memory…clearance drills come naturally to me, and it’s reasonably accurate at respectable ranges.

But I’m getting more at home with the AK all the time. Maybe in another 10 years I’ll be comfortable enough with it to call it a match for the AR system.

Yep, the SKS is a nice platform. I would have loved to bring one back as a trophy, but all I ran across were AK’s. I’ve often thought about picking one up, but when the funds were available, I opted for the AK variant.

All do, or should do that. That is why a free floating barrel is important. It should have the "harmonics" like a tuning fork. Plus, the M-16 is an A-1 and alot of advances have come along. IMO, the 7.62 round is unmatched in performance (as far as Mil. weapons go), but only in a bolt gun. As far as the M-16 vs. the AK-47----It's the heart in the guy pulling the trigger.

Very nicely put.

As for the barrell flex, you're definitely right. In fact, the Mosin Nagant M44 is supposed to be shot with the bayonet out to improve barrell harmonics, at least that's what it was designed for. Not to mention skewering people....

Really cool video, ejector! Now I know why my AK shoots the way it does. The 200 yard test was interesting too. I'll have to try it with my cheesy Romanian AK after I fix the canted front sight.

I'm sorry to inform The Rising that my SKS performs about like the AK in the video, only worse. I can't get on the paper at 200 yards using a typical Academy rifle zeroing target. Maybe it's just me. Young guys with better eyesight might do better. How does your SKS do at 200?

What can make a big difference in rifle accuracy is the ammo itself.

Wolf ammo has only about 6MOA accuracy.

So if you're shooting your AK, SKS or AR at 300m with Wolf ammo, hitting a silhouette isn't going to be easy.
