Hello TexasCHL members,

Just a quick FYI:
Re: Moving, Change of Address, Mail Forwarding = "Where is my CHL :confused5

If you have completed your Texas CHL Application "ONLINE" with your "now previous" resident address, and moved "before" sending in your packet.
Here are some things to keep in mind and keep tabs on.

Before sending in your Mailing Packet of Stips: Checklist & Supporting Documents, Papers, Pictures, etc. *INCLUDE:
- A COVER Letter addressing the change of address from your Old Address to Your New Permanent Address with New Date of Residence.
- Also indicate if this will be The Same Address for Mailing/Residence.

* DO NOT CALL TX DPS to ask for an update to the address change *
--- There is NO WAY to physically check if the address change "REQUEST" was accepted/completed till you are cleared from your Back Ground Check, Manufacturing, then Mailed Status has changed.

Once Your CHL online status has changed to "MAILED", NEW Options Appear = Hyperlinks to Make changes at the bottom of your Online Texas CHL profile.

Located at the Bottom of the "License Status" Body:
- If you want to "LOOK", Click on the First Option: * Change residential address
* This will show what address was used for the processing of your Texas CHL.

* If the address is correct, its on its way. :thumbs2:

IF the change of address to your new residence has NOT been processed with your "polite clearly typed" "Written Request". YOU Need to Update/Correct the Address online to your New One Residence and pay the $25 [$27.00 Online] Change of Address fee for a New License to be Manufactured and Mailed out to you.

* After you have made the change you will see that your status will "temporary change" & those options will disappear till after your New CHL is mailed. Check your credit card account to make sure you were charged the $27.00 in the next couple days, if so, it went through.
The processing time is FAST, so no need to call in, just check back "online" in a few days to look for any status activity updates. Once its been changed to: Mailed, look for your new CHL in the mail 7-10 Business days after.

WHY???: I have been informed by USPS & Texas DPS that STATE MAIL DOES NOT GET FORWARDED.
* I can see why, chances of you not getting your sensitive docs would be greatly increased with forwarding, so better safe than sorry.
STATE Mail usually contains A LOT of your personal information, so this is to safeguard you.

WHAT Happens to my Old CHL that was Manufactured: "Majority of the time", It will go back to Texas DPS and be voided/destroyed once the return is processed. But, it was mentioned to still check to see if the old chl arrives.

IF by chance you receive your old CHL at your new forwarded residence and you DO NOT have your New Addressed CHL: I "believe" it is still Valid till you receive your new addressed Texas CHL.
* * * Once you receive your NEW Addressed CHL, Destroy/Shred the old addressed CHL Immediately. YOU CAN NOT have two CHL in your possession.

NOTE: Texas DPS states you have 30 DAYS To NOTIFY Texas DPS of any changes to your resident/mailing address. So, Do Not Wait: Make the Change, They make it extremely easy to do this.

fwiw: I can not say enough GREAT things about how helpful Texas DPS CHL Division Representatives have been the times I have called in.
Always a friendly, clear, and helpful answer to the process. They know how to treat their fellow Texans! TOP NOTCH in my book.

Hopefully this will be of some help to others in the process :)
