OC in Belton

Post by ldj1002 »

Saw on news tonight about OC of long guns in Belton for 4th parade. Caught it late and didn't see whole thing. However it sounded like they were prohibiting it. Is that correct?

From their Facebook page:
NEW VENUE UPDATE:
When we purchased this float, The Belton Chamber of Commerce was under full understanding what we were planning. They have had meetings just because of our group and were not going to resist our actions. They contacted their Insurance company to verify if their GL insurance would cover them. The insurance company added a amendment to their policy banning all weapons-related claims from coverage. ALL weapons including the Color Guard, The re-enactors, and even a CHL holder's actions, if negligent would nullify their coverage. We have been fighting this for the last week. The COC and The Chief of Police were both working hard to bypass this and get us in the parade. We have explored every possible option and the final say is NO because they cannot allow the risk of their insurance being dumped.

SOOOOOOO....

It was suggested that we hold a "2A rally" there.... At the parade... outside of the parade's insurance..... We were a little upset about this at first but because we are not "officially" in the parade this opens up new options:

¤ We can now pass out pocket constitutions
¤ We can now hand out cards for the Open Carry Texas org.
¤ We can now mingle around the crowd
¤ We can now exit/enter the area for bathroom/whatever
¤ We can now interact with the populous face to face

This may be a better situation for us. More freedom to move around and enjoy the parade and the 120F heat without standing out on the blacktop.

We are still waiting on an exact location for this event, but we were told it would may be right in the middle of the parade route. They normally would not allow a "rally" to be held inside of the parade but its looking like we are going to get some special circumstances to do just that.

All the safety rules will still apply. We will not require any barrel plugs or flags, but we do ask that no one have a round chambered. This is our first event where we will actively be able to carry openly with literally thousands of people to educate. The last thing we need is an accident or for someone to grab a gun we are carrying and pull the trigger. It's not you we are worried about.

Again this is the 4th of July parade so only Patriotic type signs/flags (same as below).

We should have some more info on the details early next week.
