Houston.

A man meets a stranger at a Starbucks to exchange $30 for a phone. There is some problem and one guy pulls a gun and shoots the other man. Starbucks customers dodge bullets and come to the wounded man's aid. He survives. BG flees after dropping and retrieving his gun.

I've never used Craig's list, ever. I don't plan on starting now.

Because this could not possibly happen with any other type of classified ad?

I sold a car I advertised through CL seven years ago. Bought a motorcycle through CL a year or two before that. No problems in either case.

My wife and I have used Craig's List many times. Use common sense and never go alone.

I used CL this past weekend to sell a drop in bed liner. Never had any issue. Common sense and concealed carry works for me.

My family and I have used craigslist many times. Always bring a friend. Preferably one who carries. So far i've never had trouble.

Crime can happen anywhere; Craigslist or not.

I've used CL to buy and sell bowling balls, refrigerators, etc. Never had a problem.
But common sense is required; never go alone, public place, concealed carry, etc.

I agree, I've used craigslist many times without a bad experience. Buying cars, motorcycles and such. Be aware, polite, meet in well-lit public areas with a friend(witness) and know when to walk away. First thing that would have tipped me off is that it's a 30$ phone. For some reason I'd buy off the net instead of craigslist. In fact, one of my friends has been putting himself through college with cash to spare, buying selling and repairing apple products on craigslist. I convinced him to CC, it wasn't hard.

I have used Craigslist before and will do so again. Ditto on other responses here.

I have actually had more problems with garage sales than Craigslist.

We had a huge grage sale in California after we moved into our house. None of the furniture "fit" according to Mrs. Anygun.

A middle eastern man and I worked out a deal on a living room set, and stereo equiopment. He gave me a deposit and left to get his truck and help.

Something did not feel right. Spidey sense. I told Mrs. Anygun my suspicions and before he arrived I armed myself with my Springer GI model.

He arrived with two burly friends. They loaded everything. They turned to leave and I demanded my money. They ignored me.

I followed them outside and pulled my 45.

The buyer was climbing into the cube van and before he shut the door I stuck my 45 in his ear and clicked off the safety. I told him that if I did not see my money I will splatter your brains all over the other two and they are next. I told them I was from Texas, not California, and meant every word.

He pulled his wallet out, wet himself, and handed me my money.

They left, we walked back inside. Never reported it.

You have to be careful in everything you do.

I have bought and sold on Craigslist several tiems. As Calson said, common sense goes a long way. If I am meeting someone it will be in a fairly busy public place or store. Sounds like this guy was in the store proper, but I will be willing to bet there was some type of indicaiton this was not an above board sale ahead of time.

Am I blind, or does it not say which Starbucks exactly?

It says 'A Southwest Houston Starbucks'. That narrows it down to about 2000.

I realize that a lot of people who read these boards may not know about the "South West Side" of Houston. THIS is where the guy went wrong. I don't drive through "SW Houston". I don't meet people anywhere near "SW Houston". I relate "SW Houston" to probably one of the worst neighborhoods in Detroit, MI, which is another place I DO NOT GO, and WILL NEVER GO. Craigslist was not the problem here. This guys lack of knowledge about the area he was going to was his downfall. He's lucky he got away with his life as opposed to just a bullet in his leg.

I advertise on Craigslist every day, all year. I have more than 5 ads running at any moment. Yes, there are some kooks out there but you just have to weed them out and not deal with them. For the most part, I meet hard-working, up-standing people just like myself on Craigslist every day.

I have used Craig's List twice. Both were less than satisfactory experiences.

The first, I drove about 25 miles to buy a Nikon SLR camera. It was an old manual focus model that had been out of production for some time. When I talked to the guy on the phone he told me that it was working perfectly and he had just had it cleaned and checked out by a camera store. When I was checking out the camera the lens iris kept sticking so I decide not to purchase the camera.

The second was when I wanted to buy a wooden headboard for a full size bed. When I arrived to inspect it the wood was warped, the veneer was peeling off and one of the legs was broken off. The woman's house also reeked of cat pee.
