New Convert Today

I had a 69 year old lady asked me about two weeks ago if I would take her to buy a gun. She is one of my Church members. I told her that I would like her to look at some of mine and go shoot to see if is what she wanted. She has never ever held a handgun until today. My wife and I went to her home and went through the saftey aspects, the revolver, and the semi auto. I then took her to the gun range. She shot 100 rounds through a 22 Ruger Semi and then we took a break. She put every shot in the 9 ring at the 7 and 10 feet. We took a break and had a little snack. I then took a S&W Model 13. Very heavy barrel in .357, but loaded it with .38. She shot another 50 rounds and once again all in the 9 ring. She wanted the target out a little further. We moved it to 15 feet and she still hit the 9 ring for the exception of three that she placed in the 8. She is now the proud owner of a New Smith and Wesson Model 66. I have never seen someone so happy. She took the target home to hang on her wall.

I would say all in all it was a great day for me and her.

It sounds like that lady needs to be in competition, so she can make younger men weep.

I agree. The ladies of age often do better than the men of youthful strength.

Well she stronger than I am. I am in a Mobility Scooter and she is on a cane. Blind leading the one who can see.

What are the specs of a S&W model 66? I went to the S&W website but could not find it.

I ask because I'd love the get the wife a revolver.

It is their K frame stainless in .357. It is similar to the Model 19.

Great job, Carlson1 ! I'm traveling down that same road.

A female Social Worker in her mid-50's is one of my fellow employees (at my job during retirement). Out of the blue, she asked me to teach her how to shoot a handgun because it's always been something she's wanted to know about, but professional peer pressure kept her from asking for the education. She's "tried on" (by dry fire) my Glock 17 and Kahr P45. She has settled on the G17 and will be taking her first shots next week.

Encourage your "student" to pass her enthusiasm along to her friends. My Social Worker friend is doing that already. ..... The more converts there are, the better for our culture.

I am a firm believer in starting them with a 22 and letting them shoot it until they are really haveing fun

before going to the heavier calibers.

So the 69 year old lady with a cane can control a 357 revolver? Man, that is GREAT! I was wondering if my wife could control a 38 revolver. I guess my fears are groundless.
