renewing chl soon
well i will be renewing my chl here within next month or two -- my question is did the bill pass or get signed to where no more class requirements? -- i cant even remember the bill number but remember it going around about not having to take a class for renewals anymore -- is this done or still going to need renewal classes?

Yes it passed, HB48 seems to say that after Sept 1 you no longer have to take any kind of class to renew. So far DPS has not told us anything about what is going to be required nor have they set up their web site to allow it. All I can tell you is keep an eye on the DPS web site hopefully as we get closer to Sept 1 maybe we will find out what they want.

thanks im still little bit off from having to renew it but if can hold off little more and not have to take a class would rather just wait little longer then -- thanks for the info so guess just gonna hold off and see for now6 Point Star wrote:Yes it passed, HB48 seems to say that after Sept 1 you no longer have to take any kind of class to renew. Just becareful as if I remember correctly the new bill kills off the grace period for renewal. So once it expires it is done till you renew. I dont know how this will play out for those having to renew before sept 1.PBR wrote:thanks im still little bit off from having to renew it but if can hold off little more and not have to take a class would rather just wait little longer then -- thanks for the info so guess just gonna hold off and see for now6 Point Star wrote:Yes it passed, HB48 seems to say that after Sept 1 you no longer have to take any kind of class to renew. Re: renewing chl soon
yea i still have plenty of time -- around 4 months or more before expires -- which they seem to be moving pretty quickly with them now -- friend just renewed his and another friend sent off for his first one and both took less than a month to get them in hand -- i was pretty surprised how quickly especially for the first timer getting it back in less than a monthIpconfig wrote: Just becareful as if I remember correctly the new bill kills off the grace period for renewal. Re: renewing chl soon
Things are moving pretty quickly at the present. That is the fact.
My oppinion is:
1. the reason things are moving @ a fast pace is the volume of students is way down waiting for the short class in Sept.
2. in Sept there will be a FLOOD of applicants & the wait will increce almost immediately & be much longer.
My oppinion.
I had a guy ask for a card last night as I was getting in my truck headed home after church. He said the same thing. "Call you after Sept". I had 5 cancel from my class last Sat Aug 3rd.
Over the last several weeks I know I have had WAY more cancelations than I have in the past. My guess, for sure 20 & maybe 25 in the last 6 classes. I do 3 a month.

Carry 24-7 or guess right.

Re: renewing chl soon
The other day i received a letter from DPS regarding my need to renew in January 2014. It says i need a continuing ed class and a CHL-100 document.
Is this still under the old rules or is this somethig I will need to do? This will be my first renewal.

Texas CHL received 07/24/09 and being used daily.
Re: renewing chl soon
IMO, it's not Sept 1st yet so they still play by the old rules. You have plenty of time till Jan 2014 and Sept 2013 is not too far away so just wait till 09/01/13.quoheleth wrote:The other day i received a letter from DPS regarding my need to renew in January 2014. The continuing ed portion of the renewal process ( On 9/1/13 and later) will be a file on the DPS site (you'll see it as you start the renewal porocess) that you need to read, then certify to them, via electronic signature, that you DID read it. It will update things from when you were issued your license, supposedly. That, from the DPS CHL manager at the Instructor's Conference yesterday.
