So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish

Post by Hoosier Daddy »

It's time to say adios to Texas and this forum. I enjoyed the people, online and in person, but I realized I don't have the patience to stay in Texas for the long haul. When I moved here, I had an exciting new job opportunity and a romantic view of Texas gun laws. Fortunately, the job was good.

I learned a lot in the past three and a half years and now it's time to do something new. After four months of hunting, I received an offer last week. I gave notice at work today and now that the cat is out of the bag, I wanted to say farewell to all the friends I made in Texas and wish you all great luck electing new leadership in 2014.

I start my new job November 1st. If I have your email address, I'll send my details once I'm settled in.

Good luck, and hope the transition/move/etc. is smooth as possible.

Sorry to see you go. I guess I'll just cover my head with this paper bag and lay down now. Wherever you go, don't forget your towel.

I know you're leaving, or maybe have already left the forum, but if not, would you elaborate on the above, as I've no idea what you mean?

I assume he was talking about the Republican leadership blocking campus carry and similar reforms. Again. And again.

That's partially based on his "romantic view of Texas gun law" comment. Some people outside this state think our gun laws are lax, but I think most of us can agree our carry laws are among the most restrictive of the shall issue states. I know there are historical (or hysterical, take your pick) reasons for the high costs, restricted locations, penalty for not concealing, and until last month one of the most time consuming training requirements in shall issue states for new and renewal licenses. However, for newcomers to Texas who don't know the history, it can be a surprise to face bigger hurdles and more restrictions than where they came from.

Well, certainly those of the disillusioned/disaffected should move on to greener pastures...
