Where can I get a "gong"?

Does anybody know where I can get a "gong" that is suitable for shooting at?

Running out behind my fenced in back yard there's a little gully with a wet weather creek at the bottom. On the other side, the land rises up nicely, making a nice natural backstop.

The distance is about 100 yards. I'd love to sink a couple of posts in the ground and hang a gong on steel chains strung between them. Then I'd be able to stand out in my backyard and "ring" it with my 1911.

Ideally, I'd want something approximately the size of a silhouette.

Any leads?

Anything with a jacket would probably destroy is pretty fast.....maybe not if the steel is thick enough. Best of luck in your search.....sounds fun!

A welder can whip one up pretty quickly. Probably cost you $50.

I enjoy shooting them at longer distance (30 yards) with a .22 revolver.

Should they be made concave instead of flat or convex for safety reasons? I would almost thing concave with a 180 degree inward turned lip would be pretty safe.

Shape isn't critical. Flat is fine. When the target is hanging from chains, it moves when the bullet hits it. So ricochets are pretty much "deadened".

The other thing is that I plan to be "ringing" it from around 100 yards away, and there's plenty of land around it, so it's not really an issue. In my experience from bowling pin and plate matches, anything over 15 yards and it's all good.

An old Oxygen or Acetylene tank makes a good "gong".

Cut the bottom out of it about 3"-4" up, hang it from the top with a cable or chain and "gong away".

They are not real wide, so it will be challenge at 100 yds.

Frankie, too bad you don't live closer, we could whip one out in less than an hour. Only cost would be the steel to make it out of.
