Witnessed Louisiana open carry today........
......when we stopped for lunch at a Subway,
Amazingly....no one ran from the store in fear, no one over-reacted, nobody shrieked, no bad guy saw it and took it from the owner........ and the pistol didn't jump out of the holster and start firing arbitrarily at the innocent.
We all got in the car when we left, and my wife said she felt safer, my 15 year old daughter said it was awesome that Louisianans could do that, ......and I was downright jealous.
Time for Texas to do the same....IMHO.....

Whereabouts? I'm guessing in the northern part of the state?chuckybrown wrote:......when we stopped for lunch at a Subway,

Just east of Baton Rouge. Don't remember the name of the town, but it was on I-10.

Prairieville, Gonzales, Saint Amant, or Sorrento. All pretty much podunk towns.chuckybrown wrote:Just east of Baton Rouge. Don't remember the name of the town, but it was on I-10.

What has that got to do with anything?jmra wrote: Prairieville, Gonzales, Saint Amant, or Sorrento. All pretty much podunk towns.

I saw a Texas Ranger in full cowboy outfit at Cabelas, open carrying. I was intrigued and wanted to spy his badge, till I saw one.
No one was jumping in fear and no one called 911. Ah, I was at Cabelas

Because in La (particularly in South La) a podunk town is pretty much the only place you are going to see someone OC. North La is nothing but podunk so it's a little more likely to see someone OC up there than down south. I speak from experience as I spent most of my life in the state.chuckybrown wrote:What has that got to do with anything?jmra wrote: Prairieville, Gonzales, Saint Amant, or Sorrento. Point is, you're just as likely to win a $500 scratch off as you are to see someone OC in La. My wife can spot a bulge on someone's hip from across the room, but in the 42 years she lived in La she doesn't recall seeing a single non LEO OC. I have seen a few but only because the line of work I was in took me to a lot of podunk towns.
Nothing wrong with podunk towns, I live in one now.

Ok...well....thanks for the explanation.
Like you JMRA, I sure hope that folks aren't associating O.C. with "Podunk", "backwoods", etc....as if those monikers mean that the folks from these places are any less smart than folks from the "big city".

When I open carried regularly, it was in a town the size of Austin and just as liberal.chuckybrown wrote: Like you JMRA, I sure hope that folks aren't associating O.C. with "Podunk", "backwoods", etc....as if those monikers mean that the folks from these places are any less smart than folks from the "big city".
Got pretty much the same reaction in Columbus. No one much cared, no screaming, no hysterical MWAG calls. It was no big deal. Heck, 99% of people never even noticed.

You still contradicted yourself by asking if it was in North Louisiana and then changing your 'podunk' definition to fit South Louisiana.jmra wrote:Because in La (particularly in South La) a podunk town is pretty much the only place you are going to see someone OC. There are 'podunk' towns in every State. There are open carry States up North.

Open or Concealed Carry... give the people a choice.

You might want to read my post again. I stated that the only place you will ever see OC in La if you see it at all is in podunk towns. There are podunk towns in South La, but all of North La is podunk.Munk wrote:You still contradicted yourself by asking if it was in North Louisiana and then changing your 'podunk' definition to fit South Louisiana.jmra wrote:Because in La (particularly in South La) a podunk town is pretty much the only place you are going to see someone OC. That was not at all what I intended to convey. Some of the most savvy people I know live in podunk towns. The fact that they understand their rights better than those that live in the city proves that.chuckybrown wrote:Ok...well....thanks for the explanation.

But there is no doubt in my mind whatsoever that the guy OCing in smallsville wouldn't dream of doing the same in NOLA.
It may be different in a state with a long tradition of OC. La is not one of those states. I would bet 90% of the population has no clue OC is legal.

My good friend Matthew is an NRA training counselor based in Lake Charles, he tells me most people in Louisiana prefer concealed over open even though concealed carry is licensed and open isn't. In Lake Charles, hardly any one open carries because of the freak out factor. The small towns and unincorporated villages are where you will see more OC than the larger towns and cities.

That further demonstrates his intelligence considering what has come to light over the years about NOPD.jmra wrote:That was not at all what I intended to convey. I sincerely apologize to anybody I offended by suggesting the Second Amendment also applies to The People who don't work for the government.
