When I took my daughter to see Catching Fire last weekend, a couple of guys sitting near us brought hamburgers in their jackets. I suppose if someone that works there would have caught them they might have either taken them from them or kicked them out, but no one checks. No one checks women's purses. I don't think they can press any charges on anyone for bringing in food, but they could certainly ask you to leave and might even be able to go the trespassing route if you refuse to leave.

When I took my daughter to see Catching Fire last weekend, a couple of guys sitting near us brought hamburgers in their jackets. I suppose if someone that works there would have caught them they might have either taken them from them or kicked them out, but no one checks. No one checks women's purses. I don't think they can press any charges on anyone for bringing in food, but they could certainly ask you to leave and might even be able to go the trespassing route if you refuse to leave.

Years ago my wife and I were vacationing in Guilford CT and decided to go see a movie. As we entered the old fashioned theater, with the old fashioned ticket booth, there was a sign that said that no outside food or drink was allowed. We got our tickets and stopped at the concession stand and were buying popcorn and drinks when Paul Newman came in, carrying what was obviously a bag of popcorn. I asked the concession lady why he was allowed and we weren't, and because I was not satisfied with her answer, I took my (untorn) tickets back to the ticket booth and got our money back and we left.

My wife was somewhat disappointed that we did not get to sit in the same darkened theater with Paul Newman.

Took the wife to the new Hunger Games movie. She saw 2 Guns with me a while back so I owed her. Pretty good movie!

It was good. Took my daughter last weekend. Better than the first, I think and deeper character development.

I thought it was in 1952 in Anarene TX. (I have always wondered if Larry McMurtry knew there was actually such a place, a wide spot in the road on Rt 79 south of Wichita Falls.)

I remember when they had ushers, but never heard anyone call it a picture show. Of course, I wasn't in the South.
A couple of friends were ushers. I don't know if they got paid, but they got to watch all of the movies for free.
They even got to watch the same movie over and over and over for free.

My grandpappy always called them "flickers" and I picked up "flicks" from him.

My late father in law was an usher at one of the fancier theaters in our area when he met my late mother in law. He was letting a group of his friends in a side door and she was among the group. They looked into each other's eyes and that was it for both of them, they were married about 8 months later.

Some theaters today have ushers. Recently my wife and I were at a movie where there was a very bored kid along with parents decided to play on his phone instead of watching the movie. He was ushered out.
