If I moved, but someone is still living there....?
My mother, with whom I resided whilst on unemployment, is still residing at the address my CHL and DL are registered to. Do I need to change them?

Both your DL and CHL should reflect your current address. If you are no longer living there you should update both.APynckel wrote:My mother, with whom I resided whilst on unemployment, is still residing at the address my CHL and DL are registered to. Do I need to change them?

The law requires it:APynckel wrote:Should, but is it required?
GC §411.181. NOTICE OF CHANGE OF ADDRESS OR NAME. (a) If a
person who is a current license holder moves from any residence
address stated on the license, if the name of the person is changed by
marriage or otherwise, or if the person's status becomes inapplicable for
purposes of the information required to be displayed on the license
under Section 411.179, the person shall, not later than the 30th day after
the date of the address, name, or status change, notify the department
and provide the department with the number of the person's license and,
as applicable, the person's:
(1) former and new addresses;
(2) former and new names; or
(3) former and new status.
Did you change your DL address too?

This brings up an interesting question: we have a temporary address for 5-6 months of the year in a faraway OC state; however, our permanent address is as stated on our licenses.
Do we care, does anyone care?

No one, including DPS, cares if your place of residence is still what's on your CHL. In the OPs case it is not.Oldgringo wrote:This brings up an interesting question: we have a temporary address for 5-6 months of the year in a faraway OC state; however, our permanent address is as stated on our licenses.

That being said, I don't care what the OP does.

If you wan to legally do the RIGHT thing, you should update them...unless you're just trying to be a cheapskate and not want to spend the $36 to update your address on both cards.

CHL is not a place to be cheap or lazy. First you should want to be a responsible gun owner and CHL holder. 2nd, should the need arise that your CHL comes into play, or even a simple traffic stop, you may not be in legal possession of a couple concealed handgun. I'm no lawyer, but that's my guess at how the situation may be interpreted.
