Actually it was whether gun would fire, but that wouldn't fit in the headline. You see the gun had old bullets. Apparently old bullets work just fine.

No mention of how she possibly could have had a gun since it is illegal in Chicago to have a gun.

Caution the article pulls no punches and was not presented in a racially sensitive manner, if that offends you.

I have, tucked away in a box in the garage, some 8x56mmR Hungarian ammo from before WWII. The stuff still shoots just fine; there's an occasional dud, but not many.

That ammo's been flooded, dried, baked, frozen, and about everything else. And it still works.

A .22 from the 70s? Yeah, don't go wavin' that around.

Speaking of old ammo. I have ammo in sealed cans from 1960's. It is 7.62x39 chinese made ammo that was originally being supplied to the Vietnamese. I Paid next to nothing for it but thought the history was cool. It still fires just fine but has a weird acidic smell to it.

I was thinking the same thing, especially when I read they were "playing" with a loaded firearm with drinking Seagram's Gin and King Cobra beer. I'll bet they thought that firearms and alcohol can mix........

I probably don't want to know what that word means. Maybe I described the smell wrong but it made me wonder if it was the powder breaking down. I only shoot the junk in my cheapest of SKS's and AK's. Ii am pretty sure it is corrosive. I clean the heck out of my weapons when I fire those rounds.

More on topic. It makes me wonder if they got into an argument and she lost her cool for a minute and shot him. Alcohol can make people that are already stupid do really stupid things.

I could not have made up a crazier story than this one. Having said that we can conclude the following.
-Old ammo works just fine.
-Alcohol and firearms don't mix.
-Chicago gun control seems to be working as per usual.

The acidic odor is probably due to the decomposition of the powder. I hate to throw ammo away, but I would dump this stuff. In addition to the causing a misfire [not so bad], the decomposing chemicals could be reacting with the brass and weakening the case [very bad]. Also the decomposition can make things more prone to becoming unstable and causing a kaboom [also very bad]. IMO Dump it.

I have fired U.S. made ammo as old, but I think the U.S. had better quality control than the Chinese.

"Nuoc mam" is Vietnamese fish sauce. I happen to like it. Many others can't stand it!

Way to tap into my fear! Is there a way to have it checked? Maybe I should toss it. I have about 750 rounds. Does it have a collectors value? I wish I could post a smell on the internet so yall could tell me what you think. Where and how does one properly dispose of garbage ammo? I can assume we don't toss it in the brown recycle garbage can. I am going to take a picture of it and post it on a new thread. I have already gone off topic here enough.
