I have record from when I lived in Colorado. I have two separate misdemeanor charges that I was convicted of (False Reporting and Telephone Obstruction I think). This was about 10 years ago, and I have no paperwork or anything. I would have to go in person to Colorado Springs to get the court docs. I ran a check through Texas DPS, and nothing comes up. I am able to buy guns, but I always get a delay. Just wondering what to do as far as my old record, since I can't get the documents, and and can't even remember the actual dates, actual charges or the complete disposition of the charges. I have not been in any trouble since, just was going through hard time. Any input would be appreciated.

Is the telephone obstruction a domestic violence related charge?

I'm not 100% sure. For a long time I thought it was, but like I said I am able to purchase firearms, and even have NFA stamps pending, and I was under the impression that if I had a DV, then I would get denied to purchase any firearms.

IHMO, in order to avoid committing a criminal offense, when you complete the CHL application you must list these convictions. You will be required to supply documentation associated with those convictions.
I would think that you would also want to be clear on these records before purchasing another handgun so that you are not incorrectly answering this question:

i. Have you been convicted in any court of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence?

If you have, and you don't fall into the exemptions listed at the bottom of the form, you must answer "yes" which is an automatic refusal from NICS.

The public records criminal history check you run through the DPS, will only show Texas history. And even that is not 100% accurate. I run criminal histories often on folks I know have a conviction and it does not always show up on the public records side.

You must list all arrests and you will need to get a certified letter of disposition on them to include with your application. You could possibly conact the court clerk where the incidents occured and request the document from them. They will usually mail you a disposition document.
