Anyone Else Watch Strange/Oddball Comedies?

Post by Abraham »

Such as the "League of Gentlemen" - This is a dark and insanely funny British t.v. series available on Netflix streaming.

"Better Off Ted" an American t.v. comedy series that's very weird and very funny.

"The IT crowd" another British off the wall comedy series, great stuff.

Or, another dark, very funny British movie titled "The Cottage" - I watch this one once a year.

Anyway, if you like oddball comedies like the above, please add your favorites, as I'm running out of weird comedies. Everyday, conventional comedies don't appeal to me.

Thanks!

Better Off Ted was hilarious!

In movies, Raising Arizona had to be one of the weirdest, yet deeply funny comedies.

Going darker, I liked both Addams Family movies.

Added in Edit: I loved the BBC's "The Office", can't stand the American version. Spoiled I guess.

If those are to your taste try "Lone Star State of Mind" and "Bubba Hotep."

"Bubba Hotep" was funny. As far as British TV comedy series go, "Fawlty Towers" with John Cleese is a classic, as is "Black Adder" with Rowan Atkinson.

I thought Abraham was only talking about TV series, not movies. +1 for Bubba Hotep

Those were/are great. Speaking of Mr. Atkinson, who can beat "Mr. Bean". I saw one episode one time and hurt myself. My wife and girls subsequently bought me the "Whole Bean" series collection and both movies.

WildBill,

Actually, I mentioned one movie: "The Cottage" - it's completely over the top funny!

I saw "Bubba Ho-Tep" and it's not be missed.

I've often watched MST 3000 for it's pick of movies that are so bad their good, especially with the crew's insightful/snarky comments throughout the course of the movie.

Has anyone watched "Repo Man"?
It is very a strange and oddball film.
R- rated, not for the faint of heart
If you are of the correct mindset & in the right mood, it can be hilarious.

It also has many quotable lines, most of them R-rated:
Debbi: Duke, let's go do some crimes.
Duke: Yeah. Let's go get sushi and not pay.

Kevin: [singing] ... feelin' 7-Up, I'm feelin' 7-up. Feelin' 7-up, I'm feelin' 7-up...
Otto: Kevin, stop singing!
Kevin: What? I wasn't singing, guy.
Otto: [Stamping a price tag on Kevin's glasses] I'm standin' right next to you and you're singing, cut it out.
Kevin: Why so tense, guy?

Daughter and I like another British comedy called, As Time Goes By, with Judi Dench.

An odd, and completely horribly good one was Nothing but Trouble (Chevy Chase, Dan Aykroyd, John Candy).

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, which is probably too degenerate for most in this forum.
