CHL Online Application - Oklahoma/Texas?
Hello all!
I just received my Certificate of Training for a Texas CHL. I took my class and my proficiency test in Texas this weekend.
I was told to get online and submit my application so I could go to FAST and get my fingerprints taken.
Here's my problem:
My job/residence is in Oklahoma, and I filed my taxes in Oklahoma. But I just got my drivers license in Texas and I still use my address in Texas as my official address (except for when i filed my taxes) =-/ My certificate says "Texas" which is what I want because I want an official Texas CHL not an Oklahoma CHL.
When I file my application online, it's going to cost me $140 (non-refundable). Is any of this going to be an issue since I still have a Texas Drivers License?
Or does anyone know what step I should take next?
Thanks in advance for any responses/help!

I don't undestand your question. Are you a resident of Texas? If not, how do you have a Texas DL?
And last, what is your specific question?

Re: CHL Online Application - Oklahoma/Texas?
It's complicated, I guess... I moved to Oklahoma from Texas 8 months ago for a job. I still have my Texas DL and still have an address in Texas, but I don't technically live there... I never changed my address to Oklahoma.
My question:
Do you think my application will be denied when my "residence history" shows that I am currently living in Oklahoma?
.....
Basically, I'm trying to determine my best course of action in this scenario. ie... Do I go ahead and get my Oklahoma License and apply as an OK resident? If so, would I need to re-take the course?

You can either have a residence in Texas or in Oklahoma. If you are claiming your residence is in OK, then you should not have a Texas drivers license, you should have an OK. If you only work in OK, live there part time, but your residence is in TX, then you should have listed your residence as TX on the application.DragonEddie wrote:It's complicated, I guess... So, there may be an issue if you showed TX drivers license but listed your residence as OK.

Okay, so If I go get my address changed and get an OK DL, is this certificate still good? and I just need to submit my application with Oklahoma as my state?
Or would I need to re-take the class and the tests?

Re: CHL Online Application - Oklahoma/Texas?
Is the job in OK temporary? Do you plan on returning to the address in TX in the near future? I know many people who take assignments out of state but keep their residence in their home state.
If this is the case you should be fine. If the move is permanent you are no longer a resident of TX.

It was meant to be temporary, which is why I never bothered changing my address... but looks like I'm gonna be here a while, after-all.
But when I took my tests and the class I used my address in Texas...
I'm really hoping i didn't just spend $110 extra, just to have to do it all over again.

I would contact DPS and let them know that your temporary assignment has become permanent and you need assistance in changing the information on your application. You may need to get an OK DL in order to update the info but I would seek guidance from DPS first.DragonEddie wrote:It was meant to be temporary, which is why I never bothered changing my address... but looks like I'm gonna be here a while, after-all.

Well I haven't submitted my online application just yet...
Should I go ahead and do that and pay the $140 Application fee, but get my OK DL first?

Re: CHL Online Application - Oklahoma/Texas?
If you haven't applied yet, I would go ahead and get my OK DL then call DPS and explain that your OK assignment became permanent after your class. They will direct you on how to proceed but as long as the correct information is on the application I don't believe it will be a big problem.DragonEddie wrote:Well I haven't submitted my online application just yet...

I think I am missing something. If he gets his OK DL and applies using his real and correct address, why would he need to call DPS? His address is not on his CHL100, nor does the instructor report his address to the DPSjmra wrote:If you haven't applied yet, I would go ahead and get my OK DL then call DPS and explain that your OK assignment became permanent after your class. But his DL number and issuing state IS on the CHL-100 and that would not match an OK resident.jbarn wrote:I think I am missing something. Yeah, I hadn't thought of that. In suppose his instructor could issue a revised CHL100?
