Emailing CHL-8
I searched this forum for CHL-8 and surprisingly nothing came up in the search.
I am trying to email a CHL-8 according to the instructions on the bottom of the form to
https://www.txdps.state.tx.us/RSD/contact/default.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I get a failure notice saying that Outlook mail doesn't recognize that as a valid email address.
Anyone else not able to email the form? The old forms had a fax number if I'm not mistaken.

Click on the *LINK* (not email addr) in your post. Select "Concealed Handgun" in the dropdown. Fill out the online form. Attach the CHL-8. Click "Upload". Click "Submit Form".RossA wrote:I searched this forum for CHL-8 and surprisingly nothing came up in the search.

Re: Emailing CHL-8
So I can't just email the form like the CHL-8 says? I have to go online and fill out more stuff after I've already filled out the form by hand?

Re: Emailing CHL-8
Is there still a fax number that we can use? It's ridiculous that we should have to go to that website and fill out all of that stuff each time we just want to submit a required form.

What's a fax? OH, you mean that thing that was invented back in 1840's? Haven't seen one in decades. Sorry.RossA wrote:Is there still a fax number that we can use? Re: Emailing CHL-8
In the nonsensical, lengthy form found at the link, there is a drop down box for you to choose why you are contacting DPS. There is no choice for "sending in required form from instructor" or anything remotely like that. What does everyone use so that the form goes to the right place?
It has gotten progressively easier and easier for people to get a CHL (good!) and progressively harder and harder to get and keep an instructor's certificate and comply with the rules(bad!).

The only choice that makes any sense, as mentioned in my first response, is "Concealed Handgun".RossA wrote:In the nonsensical, lengthy form found at the link, there is a drop down box for you to choose why you are contacting DPS. Mail it in? I don't see any mailing address on the form, just the "link" that claims to be an email address.

That's in the FIRST drop down box. There is a second one as well.

Ok, which of those choices do you think applies the best? I use "Other".RossA wrote:That's in the FIRST drop down box. There is a second one as well.

Re: Emailing CHL-8
So the law now requires that instructors have scanners? I know better than to ask RDS about this. My form will be a month late if I do that.

How were you going to email it, if you don't have a scanner?RossA wrote:So the law now requires that instructors have scanners? I know better than to ask RDS about this. My form will be a month late if I do that.
No, scanners aren't required, unless you want to submit the form electronically. You can still s-mail the paper form to the same DPS address you use to mail in applications. See the top of the "contact form" after selecting "Concealed handgun".The s-mail addresses are there. And I would use the "non-payment" address if I were going to mail it in.

A scanner is not required, but it helps. You can fill out the CHL-8 "form" which is available, insert an electronic signature and print it to a file. I elect to print it to a PDF file, print it out and then sign it. I scan the printed form and again print it to PDF Then I attach it to the document generated from the "contacts" page. But, like I said, you do not have to scan. You can insert the electronic signature and go from there.
I too use "other" in the second drop-down field.
