The family that shoots together...

WINTER HAVEN, Florida – When a stranger tried to break into the Pena family home, the Penas were ready for him.
“If this guy would’ve stayed home, he’d have been alive right now,” a neighbor told Fox 13 Orlando.
Early Monday morning, the Penas woke to the sound of 40-year-old Mitchell Large trying to break into their Winter Haven home through a porch door. Undeterred by a warning shot, Large burst into the kitchen.
There, three family members – a father, a mother, and their son – were waiting for Large. All three of them were armed.
The family then opened fire on the intruder...

I'm not a warning shot type of person though. The lock on the door should have been warning enough.

Yeah, me neither, but didn't FLA pass a warning shot law?

I can hear the attorney now, "So Mr. Smith, if you didn't fire a warning shot before shooting my client, how was he supposed to know that you didn't want him to break into your home?

No. The FL bill is very similar to TX law that allows you to use the threat of deadly force when the use of force is justified. "Warning shots" are not mentioned or referred to in the bill at all. Those who opposed the bill labeled it as such in the hopes it would be defeated.
