Possibly visiting the Capital tomorrow...

Post by SigM4 »

Haven't been in a while, has anything changed in the last several years? Still have the express lane for CHLs I assume?

It's still at the same location.

And, yes, they still have the CHL express lane. :thumbs2:

I was there a few weeks ago (Memorial Day weekend)... Express lanes (both entrances) still in place, with smiley service.

Thank goodness, I was concerned they'd up and moved.

Good (albeit brief) visit. My daughter, while too young to appreciate it much, had never been so I figured it was a good chance to stop by and remind us all what this great state means to us; even those of us currently stuck out of state. No line to get in, though the Trooper manning the CHL station could have been a little more cordial. All in all a good visit.

Why's that? I took a knife in to the capitol, didn't know I shouldn't. Also had keys in my pockets, big DSLR over one shoulder and a camera bag over the other. Walked up, handed my CHL to the trooper who looked at it, swiped it, my photo came up on the computer screen, he handed my CHL back and said, "enjoy your visit, sir."

Meanwhile, my son and his girlfriend who were with me were taking off their shoes and belts, emptying their pockets and walking through a magnetometer. Standing around waiting on them to make it in I took a photo of them. My son is in yellow.

ETA - Oh yeah, I also had a gun in my waistband.

Short answer: It depends on who you run into at the capital.

For reference:

It's obscure, but apparently CHL allows us to carry knives that are "illegal" in length.

But "legal" knives are ok?

I don't recall seeing any signage or reading any statute that would forbid them in the Capitol building...

As far as I know, which has some very real limits, there are no "special" rules for the capital building, just state law.
If I have that right, legal knives should be allowed.
With CHL - illegal knives subject to the exception in 46.02 should be allowed with CHL.
Your Mileage May Vary depending on who you run into... The handgun thing seems very clear and well accepted.
