What would you do?

First, a little background information. I'm currently going through a divorce. Should be final around the end of August or first part of September. I am not leaving my current address permantly until the divorce is final, but I already have my new home and address and am slowly moving some stuff to new home. I have a Texas CDL and Texas CHL. I understand I have 30 days from the time I "officially" change addresses to change my licenses. I have been told by a fellow co-worker who just changed addresses on his CDL, that because it's a CDL, you have to go to a DPS office to change addresses and they make you take a new picture no matter how old your last one is. This gets me to my question. In your opinions, should I change my CDL and wait for it to come before I change my CHL or just do both at the same time? My concern is that since I will have to get a new picture on the driver's license, it will somehow delay my CHL getting changed. What would you do?

I moved last year and had to change addresses. I also had to go in for a photo. I did both within a day or two of each other. I actually got my new CHL first, in less than a week, and DL a couple days later. I don't think you have to worry about waiting for the photo. I think you could do both on the same day and it won't matter. In fact, if I remember correctly, I did the CHL change online but when I tried to change the DL I got a message that I had to come in, which I did the next day.

Are you aware that with most divorces the paperwork now includes, as a matter of course, a protective order as a standard part of the wording. Not because you deserve it but because it is just becoming more prevelant. You can ask your lawyer to be sure that that language is left out or challenged. However, if you dont, that order can disqualify you from holding a CHL. Might be worth looking into.

Thanks, but yes I made sure nothing like that was/is in the petition of divorce or divorce decree. So far it has gone smoothly and we are getting along for our daughter's sake. My first divorce was messy (no kids) and I'm not going through that again. I have to hold my tongue a lot, but in the long run it will be worth it. Thanks again for the advice though.
