Traffic stop shoot out - Alpharetta, GA
Police released dashcam video showing a man who shot an Alpharetta police officer seven times during a traffic stop.

Police say that night, Curtis Hicks shot officer David Freeman seven times, severely injuring him. Hicks then led officers from several departments on a high-speed chase through Roswell and into Sandy Springs. He crashed his car on Georgia 400.

Police say Hicks emerged from his truck and began shooting again. The video shows officers returning fire, and Hicks was fatally shot. Freeman made a full recovery and is back on road patrol with Alpharetta police.

In a video produced by North Point Community Church, Freeman’s wife recounted her husband’s phone call that night.

“He said, ‘Hey beautiful. I just need you to know I’ve been shot. I think I’m OK. I need you to get my parents over to the house and get to the hospital as soon as you can,’” she said.

Alpharetta Police Department spokesman George Gordon said detectives searched Hicks’ apartment and found guns and ammunition. “We don’t know if he was bent on more carnage in the future," said Gordon.

Gordon says Hicks’ family told police he was mentally ill and suspected he might have been on his way to kill one of them when Freeman pulled him over.

“He obviously had practiced his handgun skills,” said Gordon. The GBI investigated the shooting of Curtis Hicks.

Officials told Petchenik the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office ruled that the officers handled the situation correctly.

Luckily for the LEO, he approached the suspect from the passenger side. I'm speculating that most of the 7 shots he took
hit his vest. Thank goodness he was able to recover and continue his life.

The thin blue line....thankfully there's LEO's to provide a buffer between BG's and honest citizens.

Wow, that happened quickly!

Maybe some of the hits officer Freeman took were not covered by his vest, assuming he was wearing one.

I'm very glad he's recovered, but when you read "severely injuring him" you have to wonder if he's in pain every day from his injury/injuries...?

This article says, "...officer was shot in his right elbow, leg and lower abdomen. He was also struck twice in his vest area."

News story says he was hit five times, in any case prayers for a full and speedy recovery. I used to travel to Alpharetta frequently on business, it's a city that is contiguous with Atlanta on the north side and as mentioned very upscale.
