Meadows Place playing fast and loose with gun/drug free?
It would appear that Meadows Place is using "gun free/drug free signs" beyond their intended purpose:
http://cityofmeadowsplace.org/departmen ... pon-zones/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
It is my understanding that these only apply to schools, and that a CHL overrides it unless inside a building.
Note that the mythical safety zones even include homes:
http://cityofmeadowsplace.org/wp-conten ... ezones.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
"This is yet another tool to help our police department crack down on any criminal activity in the City, and it sends a message to those outside our city that we do not tolerate crime in Meadows Place"
On the contrary, laws like this do little to deter criminals but rather cause problems for good people.

I think it's Schertz TX that has gun and drug-free zone signs posted at the city parks and other areas (or did). They mean nothing to a CHL holder.
Course, they mean even less to the goblins.

Re: Meadows Place playing fast and loose with gun/drug free?
What specifically do the naive sign posters think when they post such ineffective signs?
That the criminal element will be intimidated by the sign and take their criminal ways elsewhere?
Or, that the signage provides a "feel good emotion" for the naive law abiding...?
Or, that the signage means the criminal if caught with a gun will somehow earn a longer sentence and that'll deter him, cuz hey, he was warned (assuming he can read)?
Or...what?
Gun free zone signs are just plain stupid!

It means that a good person with no criminal record who made a small mistake will be punished even more.Abraham wrote: Or, that the signage means the criminal if caught with a gun will somehow earn a longer sentence and that'll deter him, cuz hey, he was warned (assuming he can read)?

Doesn't state pre-emption apply to a city sans firing within city limits?
Re: Meadows Place playing fast and loose with gun/drug free?
Whenever I see a "No firearms" sign in a park, I take it to mean "No use of firearms for reasons other than legally-justified self-defense".jamminbutter wrote:Doesn't state pre-emption apply to a city sans firing within city limits?

Lot of houses in that "weapon" free area. I wonder if all those people are disarmed. I also wonder what the City thinks they can do if they're not disarmed.

City of Meadows Place, lol. 9/10ths square mile former M.U.D./Subdivision with delusions of grandeur.
TV's Mayberry had more right to call itself a city and it was fictitious. Probably had much better police protection to boot.

Re: Meadows Place playing fast and loose with gun/drug free?
I received an email about this from someone, and I have contacted certain parties that I feel might need to know. My understanding is that OCT plans a march on the city for November 1st. Basically I have not had time to look into this so I am unsure of what is really going on, I will reserve judgement on the matter until I have a chance, and when I have that chance I will double check it to ensure I am not getting caught up in OCT's spin on things.
the Federal GFSZ act says no firearms within 1000 feet of a school, BUT there are exceptions such as living within that distance of a school or having a carry license from the state the school is in.
The city might claim the signs are posted as a public service to let people know that they are entering federal GFSZ. Who knows, more research is in order.

How do you explain a dog named Sauer without first telling the story of a Puppy named Sig?

Re: Meadows Place playing fast and loose with gun/drug free?
Interestingly enough, the legend in the map provided by the link in the OP shows the Drug free zones are to be 1000 feet away, but the Weapon free zones are only 300 feet away.
So... they're ignoring the fact that the line should be further away (relative to the GFSZA), but the wording seems to apply to ALL guns on their signs (ignoring the fact that it does not apply to our CHL-allowed guns).
Idiots.

I have consistently stated that getting arrested for a Federal GFSZ 1000 foot violation is as uncommon as a purple unicorn and not worth worrying about.G.A. However, if unlicensed people with OCT stage a protest by carrying loaded firearms within the 1000 foot limit, they just might create the exception to the rule.
As to the other comments in this thread, the federal GFSZ restrictions to not apply to private property. Someone carrying on the sidewalk, in the streets, or in their car is subject to this idiotic law.

Probably just reminding of the sentence enhancements in state law for illegally carrying drugs/weapons around schools and the Federal GFSZA. So what, doesn't apply to legal CHL.
4/13/1996 Completed CHL Class, 4/16/1996 Fingerprints, Affidavits, and Application Mailed, 10/4/1996 Received CHL, renewed 1998, 2002, 2006, 2011, 2016...). "ATF... Uhhh...heh...heh....Alcohol, tobacco, and GUNS!! Cool!!!!"
