Rosenberg PD

### STREET BEAT ###

Moments ago, Rosenberg Dispatchers received a 911 call regarding a subject with a gun. An alert citizen observed three individuals in possession of a handgun and overheard them making threats as they were sitting in a vehicle. The citizen was able to provide a detailed description of the vehicle and the men.

Dispatchers quickly disseminated the information to patrol officers who were already in the area. Within seconds Officers observed a vehicle matching the description and conducted a high risk traffic stop. Officers detained three men inside the vehicle and also located a black handgun which was discovered to be an airsoft pistol.

Thankfully no one was hurt, and much praise goes out to the alert concerned citizen. We may not know where they were headed or what their intentions were, but we do know that their plans are now ruined as they are sitting in the Rosenberg city jail.

From the limited information I am not seeing a reason for an arrest.

Making threats? That's a reason for arrest. Airsoft or not, if you threaten a person with it, there's a problem. You can be charged with armed robbery if you use an Airsoft to rob a store.

At least it wasn't like what happened to a colleague's wife in Forney. Tan Toyota car with four black males waving a gun going down the freeway. They stop a maroon Nissan with a black female and four young kids. Had the wife and six year old get out with guns pointed at them, felony stop. The stopping officer even pulled off the unit that had stopped the correct vehicle insisting HE had the right one.

Witness had what appears to be rock solid information. Once the police found the "gun" they had no reason to not believe the rest of the witnesses story. Making threats with a weapon seems like a good reason they're sitting in jail.

I'd be very careful about this. Remember a recent case where a man was killed by police in a Walmart because someone said he was waving around an assault rifle threatening people? Turns out it was an airsoft gun he was checking out and going to buy and supposedly, the surveillance cameras don't show the activity the caller claimed to have seen.

and overheard them making threats
So the threat was not directed at the caller and amounts to what, a potential lie, is that what we have become? Imagine sitting in your car rifle in back seat while you make a comment and a person only hears the part where you say your going to take out something.
