Avoid Maryland

Maryland stopping out of state cars for "speeding", then searching for guns. Apparently in Maryland the gun and ammunition must be in separate locked boxes.

Apparently they used the "I smell Marijuana" excuse to search the car. I never found an explanation for how they knew he had a carry permit. Very troubling. I can understand why some have grown fearsome of police if the facts are as written. Not trying to cop bash at all just an opinion on this case based on the limited details.

I worry about CHL showing up on the radar in some states. It's just another indicator that might get law enforcement interested.

So the basis for this stop was the smell of Marijuana? Yep.. Probably just another case of striking up a joint in front of the wife and child while on a family holiday.

PD says that the stop and search were justified. That pretty much says to me that anyone can be searched at any time, simply on the basis of an officer willing to indicate that something smelled funny.

I was aware of the residence one. I believe the vehicle is treated differently. Thanks for the references.

I restrict my travel so that I never venture out of the free states.

Is there any law that requires a citizen to come to the aid of a police officer that is in trouble?
God Bless America, and please hurry.

My understanding is that states must allow transport of firearms IAW a federal law, but that law requires the firearm be unloaded and locked up or disassembled. I've "transported" throught Illinois in that manner.

BTW, did you know that Illinois' new CC laws now allow non-residents with CHLs to carry in their vehicle. I wouldn't try that in Chicago, tho.
