Taco Bueno in San Marcos - THUMBS UP!

Post by bburgi »

Just put a new Taco Bueno in San Marcos. I went there the other day and saw an big red, white & blue sign that said something to the effect of "You serve us, so we're proud to serve you. All military, LEO, EMT personnel in uniform or with valid ID get 50% off their individual meal."

I know lots of places give military or LEO discounts, but 50%?! That's awesome! And the fact that they display it so prominently makes me want to eat there all the time.

So... not really gun related other than the fact that military & LEO guys use guns in their jobs, but I thought I'd pass it on in case anyone is interested.

An IHOP in Lubbock was having issues with gangbanger-wanna bes eating, leaving without paying, trashing the table, stealing crap, ect.

Even read something about them taking dumps on the floor in the paper.

Anyway, IHOP manager put a sign up giving FREE meals to all LEO.

The problem has now been solved. No damage and all service men get free meals.....benefits all around!

I know it puts a dent in our budget sometimes...But if I see a service member(s) in uniform, their meal is (or gets) paid for...

I try not to let them know who did pay for it if I can...Just to see them look up when they are ready to split, and find out its taken care of is joy enough for me...

I am active duty, and have been out and had my meal paid for and discounts offered several times. I would never ask for, nor accept this as I feel I am not afforded this due to my career choice----also, how can I enjoy a free meal when so many have given so much and can't enjoy a meal. I feel a sort of guilt, but great appreciation. However, the impact this has on service members goes well beyond the look they give at the resturant. It literally brings tears to my eyes when this happens. One of the most memorable experiances of my life was the first time I came back from the desert. I was on a plane in DCU's, and the pilot announced that we were on there. The whole plane started applauding, and some guy came back and gave me his first class seat. I would not take it, but he insisted. Another time, I got invited to a hunting ranch for a weekend of deer hunting. I have thought about these guys many times when I have been somewhere that sucked and realized why I am there in the first place and those who have been in places that sucked alot worse. Your generosity is not expected, but greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for what you have done.

I pay for all servicemen in uniform anonymously.

Most of the time I have to take a number as many have beaten me to it.

I was at Abuelos on Central recently and saw four men there in uniform and the waitress told me that just about everyone wanted to pay for their meal.

What's even better is to pay for their meal when they are in civvies.

I ask the waitress to casually ask a group of young men in short haircuts and in great shape if they are military. Then take it from there.

I'm not sure if the policy is the same still, but here, Bush's chicken says, "If you have a badge, you get free food."

What a great notion; one thing that I will never turn down is a 100% discount!

Man, the gang bangers have gone all the way out to west Texas? My god, that makes me cringe! Where am I going to go to get away from them when I retire? I guess maybe the hill country since they can't afford to live there...

Yup. Or you could move to Austin. Not too much in the way of gangbangers, but we've got hippies!

I usually shoot at Dietz's in New Braunfels. $8, no time limit and a little bit closer than south Austin.

Let me know the next time you guys want to go - love to head out there with you.

I usually head out there every week or two. It's usually on the weekends, but since I work an irregular graveyard shift, my days off vary. I usually have a Saturday or Sunday off. This weekend I'll be out of town, so perhaps next?
