Home invasions

Post by treadlightly »

Homeowner in medically induced coma awaiting surgery, one invader dead.

Could have been worse, although the resident hasn't survived yet. Prayers.

From the website, another home invasion in the same time frame, but for some reason this one sounds less clear. Dunno, details foggy for me for some reason - http://www.kwtx.com/home/headlines/Two- ... 36301.html

A few months ago, back during warmer weather, there were shootings in Coolidge, another little town in that same rural area. I can't find any news links, but basically a couple of kids would walk up to a resident on his porch and ask for cigarettes. Whatever the answer they would turn and walk a few steps away. Then they would turn back and spray the house with bullets. I think there were two or three of those before they got caught. No fatalities, fortunately, but a few gunshot wounds.

is this sort of crud on the rise?

Does any one else marvel at the sheer stupidity of embedding in the article a map showing the location of the first victim's residence? Look here all you criminals "Here's where the guy whose in the hospital in a coma lives; come and get it" :banghead:

Just goes to show that those who think home invasions are only a problem in urban / suburban areas are mistaken...

It's not really so stupid if you use some basic logical reasoning.

We already know the lame stream media is rabidly pro gun control.

It's been fairly well established that pro gun control = pro criminal.

So it makes perfect sense that the media help the criminals by mapping out their next job.

See, that wasn't so hard. The logic used here is a lot more solid than what they use to promote "common sense" solutions.

From all I hear, the homeowner was in the right. He may not be the Second Amendment's best champion, though.

Interesting. Under Texas law he's allowed to have a firearm in his home for defense 5 years after end of parole, probation or completion of sentence. He barely made the the 5 years according to the date on the website of 1-27-2000. He can be charged under Federal law. I wonder if Freestone Co will send this up to them.
What made you look him up?

Teague is a nearby town, and there is talk in the community about what happened. The only comments I've heard are along the lines that it's a crying shame anything like this had to happen. There is an abundance of sympathy for the homeowner who is gravely injured. As far as I know he's still alive, and I hope that means his chances are improving.

There is sympathy for the family of the youth who was probably killed with justification. Nobody is being mean to anyone, at least not that I've heard.

And, one of the comments I heard was the homeowner has this past.

I posted it because I'd opened my trap to begin with and this detail is a matter of public record I wasn't aware of.

:
FAIRFIELD (March 12, 2015) Authorities in Freestone County have arrested a niece and nephew of a rural resident who continues to fight for life after he was wounded in a home invasion in which one of the teenage robbers was killed, Freestone County Attorney Chris Martin said Thursday.

Doug Hurst, 45, was in grave condition Thursday at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Waco, Martin said.
...
Hurst, who was out of town with his family, had returned to secure the residence after a break-in on Saturday night and was alone in the house at the time of the break-in on Monday, Martin said.

His niece, Amber Halford, 19, of Fairfield and his nephew, Dustin Sanoja, of Teague, who turned 19 on Wednesday, were held in the Freestone County Jail Thursday.

The homeowner passed away today, apparently shot with his own pistol that was stolen from his house the night before the shooting. His niece is currently charged with aggravated robbery. The news mentions capital murder charges may be forthcoming.

I live in Teague, so I've been keeping up with this pretty closely.

The perps in question have a pretty long history of B&E. And Teague has had a string of unsolved burglaries lately (which may have been solved now). More arrests and charges are expected in the near future. Crime is becoming a bigger issue here than it has ever been. The "it could never happen here" attitude is coming to an end quickly.

One thing not mentioned in the news is the existence of a couple of GoFundMe accounts in the name of the homeowner....accounts which may be funding the perps' bail. I'm trying to find out more about that.

Hopefully they'll all get death as punishment after conviction. Of course with the victim's past he'll be attacked by te defense lawyers. SOP.

Technically, they could be looking at two capital murder charges....one for the victim and one for the perp that died during the commission of a felony. Either way, they won't see the free world again until they're buried under it.....

We might need a firing squad for that. Texas is out of its execution drug.

This is not a problem....I'm sure Abbott can start a GoFundMe account for the ammo. I'd contribute for a box or two.
