Capitol Building AZ CHL

Post by btrombla »

Hey all I just have a real quick story to share with you all about packing in the capital building in Austin.

A few months ago a friend of mine came to visit from Las Vegas. She is real big on sight seeing and history and asked if we could go checkout the State Capitol. I of course was carrying that day like always. We walked around the exterior for a while and I was curious if I would be able to carry inside the building or not. I took out my trusty smart phone and according to google carrying in the Capitol was a go. But here is the catch I carry on an Arizona CHL not a Texas. So I figured I would give it a shot.

I approached the CHL line and presented my Az CHL and my Tx drivers license. The Trooper asked if I had a Tx CHL and I told him no. I am in the military and already had my Az CHL and felt to reason to get my Texas permit as long as my Az permit is valid. He asked if I was carrying today and I told him of course. He got on his phone and called his dispatch to ensure my permit was valid. After about 30 seconds on the phone he handed me my information back shook my had and thanked me for the service to our country. :patriot:

Very good encounter in my opinion.

Stay safe!

Cool!

I wonder how they validated the license so quickly? Glad they could do it.

They probably just checked to make sure AZ has reciprocity and if reciprocal licenses were valid to carry in the capitol building. I'm sure they see that scenario often enough.

Glad to hear you had a good encounter, and welcome to the forum!
Keep calm and carry.

What a pleasant outcome - not the way I'd anticipated the story ending.

I always wondered if they honored out-of-state licenses. I thought they should, but then when I saw them run mine through their little laptop it made me wonder how they handle "furrin" license.

Good to know, and glad you had a good time.
