Substance abuse

Post by gmfitter »

I attended a 28 day rehab for drugs and alcohol in 1986. I have been clean ever since. Does this stop me from getting a Texas CHL?

It shouldn't. The period for in-patient or residential substance abuse treatment is only for the preceding five year
period. I would make sure and list it on the application though.

I tried. On the application, on line, when you click "yes" when asked about drugs/alcohol, you get a drop down menu that specifies the 5 year period.
I did have an non resident CHL from Utah. I don't remember disclosing that info on my application. Seems to me that if the period in question is the
previous 5 years, not disclosing info outside of that period should not be reason for refusal.

If it is only asking for the 5 year period on the application, then you should follow those directions.
