Anybody else have an issue...FYI post...

Post by stevie_d_64 »

With their S&W M&P 40's??? (this may extend to other calibers too)

Specifically the slide release lever "catch" sensitivity???

Seems a bit out of alignment, and not engaging very well in slide-lock...

I noticed this one a friends gun the other day...

Apparently S&W is aware of this and will send you a label to send them your gun for an "adjustment" by their people...7-10 day turnaround...

Everything else about the gun is very good...The finish is what stands out...A guy at a local range took a metal stapler and banged the heck out of one of the display guns and not a scratch or mar in finish...Impressive...

If you did that to a Glock, it'd just make it uglier! It would still work to... ;-)

Check out the M&P Forum for extensive discussions about this issue. Do a search on "mag drop" for starters.

S&W is aware of the problem and, from what I have read, stand ready to help anyone experiencing this. It appears to happen most often with the compact versions.

I have a full sized M&P 9mm and have not experienced any problems at all. I really like the gun and am considering buying a compact 9.

Stevie, I have over 20,000 through my 9mm, over 8000 through my .40 and now over 500 through my .45 with no problems what so ever. No slide lock problems and no magazine drop problems. The M&P is a great gun and I throughly enjoy shooting it. I can recommend it with out reservation.

The fix is basically a new slide catch. The slide release on my M&P is really tight, and I'll probably send mine in for the new lever just because of that; but I've had no functional problems with my M&P 9; with over 2000 rounds through it so far, about 10% of which were +P+.

If you have a prolem with you slide release taking excessive force to operate, just polish the contact point. I have stoned and buffed the contact points on all my M&Ps and they work very smooth and very light. If anyone wants details, PM me.
