Sometimes I really wish a lawyer would chime in and clear things up. Do we have any lawyers on this forum?

I don't think firing those 4 shots was particularly smart. Not only did he miss, he stated he didn't want to take someone's life.

Since his own life (or someone else's) wasn't in danger, I don't think it was a good idea.
Keep calm and carry.
