Wow...she had a primary that jammed.

She had a BUG that was unfired since she didn't engage her threat...she just ran away screaming.

She was halfway home since she tagged him with a round to his leg.

2 guns on her, her threat didn't even have his gun loaded, and she gets killed. Sad outcome.

The issue here seems to be mindset. While training would certainly have helped, it seems to me that she wasn't really willing to kill her exboyfriend to defend herself.
On the other hand, my guess is the boyfriend was going to beat her to death but instead shot her when she shot him.
Tragedy in any case!

I sure feel for her and wish she was more successful in defending herself. But, with that said, at least she tried. She is better than those folks that believe the best thing to do is get on your knees and accept your fate, or by playing dead, puking and what not, as long as it isn't violent defensive in nature. God bless her for sure. I sure hope that if someone gets the best of me and I die as a result, that others will at least say, "He gave it his best shot". This has always been my answer to the antigunners who are always crowing about, how even if you have a gun you will probably still be killed. I say, so what? at least you tried and didn't die like a Ewe, but like a Ram.
Unless we keep the barbarian virtues, gaining the civilized ones will be of little avail. Oversentimentality, oversoftness, washiness, and mushiness are the great dangers of this age and of this people." Teddy Roosevelt"

I agree that at least the lady tried -- to a point. I cannot speak to either her mindset or her training, but it seems that at least one was lacking to the point that her defense was ineffective. If it was a mindset issue, she may have simply been doomed. On the other hand, if her demise may have been prevented by more training / familiarization with running the gun, she had the opportunity and did not take it to possibly prevent her death in this particular event. Regardless of why her defense (at least she attempted one) was ineffective, the result was a tragedy. Carrying a gun is not an adequate defense if you don't have the skill or the will to use it effectively. I would urge anyone to seek whatever training they can to help ensure they can effectively use their handguns.
